Frankfurt-based Goldman Sachs Bank Europe SE, the subsidiary of The Goldman Sachs Group, Inc, has bought 51.31 lakh equity shares (equivalent to 0.16 percent of paid-up equity) in <a href="https://www.moneycontrol.com/india/stockpricequote/banks-private-sector/axisbank/AB16">Axis Bank</a> for Rs 674.21 crore, from Morgan Stanley Asia (Singapore). The shares were exchanged at a price of Rs 1,313.9 per share.

Further, Goldman Sachs Bank Europe has acquired 25.58 lakh equity shares (0.018 percent stake) in <a href="https://www.moneycontrol.com/india/stockpricequote/refineries/relianceindustries/RI">Reliance Industries</a> from Morgan Stanley for Rs 354.1 crore. The exchange price for these shares wa Rs 1,383.9 per share.

Both foreign investors also exchanged <a href="https://www.moneycontrol.com/india/stockpricequote/miningminerals/vedanta/SG">Vedanta</a> shares at a price of Rs 699.45 per share. Goldman Sachs purchased 21.74 lakh shares (0.055 percent stake) for Rs 152.11 crore from Morgan Stanley.

Axis Bank shares rallied 4.59 percent to close at Rs 1,315.8 amid high volumes after consolidation seen in the past several weeks, while Vedanta shares rose 3.11 percent to Rs 705.45, and Reliance Industries shares closed flat at Rs 1,380.5.

The Miri Strategic Emerging Markets Fund, owned by Miri Capital Management, has acquired additional 2.04 lakh shares (0.72 percent stake) in Antony Waste at Rs 589.37 per share, valued at Rs 12.05 crore.

With this, in current month, the Miri Strategic Emerging Markets Fund has picked up total 3.26 percent stake, in addition to 1.14 percent shares held as of December 2025.

The brisk action also continued in <a href="https://www.moneycontrol.com/india/stockpricequote/software/rategaintraveltechnologies/RTT">RateGain Travel Technologies</a>, the SaaS provider in travel and hospitality, which shares fell 0.92 percent to Rs 609.35. Arpit Khandelwal-founded Plutus Wealth Management sold further 16.57 lakh shares (1.4 percent stake) in the company at Rs 606 per share to Paisabuddy Finance, for Rs 100.43 crore.

In the last two sessions, Plutus offloaded total 3.13 percent stake in RateGain, against its shareholding of 6.39 percent stake as of December 2025.

<h3><strong>JSW Steel Q3 Results:</strong></h3>
JSW Steel reported a consolidated net profit of Rs 2,139 crore for Q3 FY26, marking a 198 percent year-on-year (YoY) rise from Rs 717 crore net profit reported in Q3 FY25. The firm's revenue from operations rose 11 percent YoY to Rs 45,991 crore during the quarter under review.

The company’s steel sales grew 14 percent YoY to Rs 7.64 mt, while crude steel production rose 6 percent YoY to 7.48 mt.
<h3><strong>Motilal Oswal on JSW Steel:</strong></h3>
Motilal Oswal said the company’s revenue was in-line with estimates, mainly on account of strong volume, which was partially offset by muted NSR. “Adjusted EBITDA was largely in line with our estimate at INR66b (+19% YoY). It dipped 16% QoQ, mainly due to weak NSR and increased input costs,” it added.

JSTL reported a decent performance in 3QFY26, supported by volume growth, offsetting muted steel prices. We believe JSTL is well-placed with new capacities coming on-stream, strong domestic demand, and a rising share of value-added proportion in the sales mix. Its focus on increasing the captive share of iron ore and improving coal linkages will support earnings, the domestic brokerage said.

Motilal estimates double-digit revenue growth over FY26-FY28, driven by the ramp-up of new capacity and price recovery led by safeguard duty. The brokerage reiterated its ‘Buy’ rating for the stock, with a target price of Rs 1,350 apiece. This implies an upside potential of more than 15 percent from the stock’s previous closing price.

PL Capital upgraded the shares of JSW Steel to ‘Accumulate’ with a target price of Rs 1,292 apiece. This implies an upside potential of more than 10 percent from the stock’s previous closing price. It expects the company to improve its market share over the next few years due to its superior execution capabilities, downstream focus and significant deleveraging post JFE-BPSL deal.

“Q3 performance was tad weaker due to weak steel pricing, shutdown costs and deteriorated product mix on higher JVML contribution,” the domestic brokerage noted.

The floor price for the OFS has been set at Rs 685 apiece, marking a 6 percent discount from today's closing price. At the said floor price, Vedanta will raise Rs 4,589.50 crore through the sale of the shares.

The OFS will open for non-retail investors on January 28, and for retail investors on January 29.

Vedanta has sold portions of its stake in Hindustan Zinc twice in the past two years to help shore up its balance sheet.

Kotak Mahindra Bank shares fell around 3 percent after the company released its <a href="https://www.moneycontrol.com/news/business/markets/kotak-mahindra-bank-shares-tumble-5-after-q3-results-miss-estimates-should-you-buy-sell-or-hold-13791546.html">results for the October-December quarter</a> of the ongoing financial year 2026.
<h3><strong>Technical view on Bank Nifty:</strong></h3>
Bank Nifty closed with a long bullish candlestick on the daily chart, indicating strong buying interest, said Vatsal Bhuva, Technical Analyst at LKP Securities. The index found support near the 58,100 zone and witnessed a sharp follow-up rebound after the previous selling session, highlighting demand at lower levels, according to the analyst.

He however cautioned that volatility is expected to remain elevated in the coming sessions due to the Union Budget event. "The 20-day moving average and the 59500 zone will be crucial; a sustained close above these levels could decide the next directional move. Support is placed at 58800, while resistance stands at 59500,” he concluded.

Shrikant Chouhan, Head Equity Research at Kotak Securities, had said that 58,000 would act as a key level for traders. Below this, the analyst had said that the correction wave could continue until 57,500–57100. Conversely, above 59,000, it could bounce back up to 59,350–59,500.

Bank Nifty rises 700 points as Axis Bank, PNB, other stocks rise up to 5%: Check key trading levels

The Nifty Bank index gained on January 27, as several bank stocks sharply rose in trade. The sectoral index has closed as the second-biggest major gainer on the market today, only after metals.

The index closed 732.35 points (1.25 percent) higher at 59,205.45 on Tuesday.

Axis Bank shares were the top gainers on the index, jumping more than 5 percent to trade at Rs 1,322 apiece. This came after the private sector lender reported a better-than-expected results for Q3 FY26.

Punjab National Bank (PNB), Bank of Baroda (BoB), Federal Bank, State Bank of India (SBI) and Canara Bank shares gained more than 2 percent each, while Union Bank of India and ICICI Bank shares gained nearly 2 percent each.

HDFC Bank and Yes Bank shares gained more than 1 percent each, while IndusInd Bank and AU Small Finance Bank shares were trading in the green with marginal gains. AU Small Finance Bank shares closed with marginal losses.

Shares of Indian seafood exporters rose on Tuesday on optimism around the India-European Union trade deal, which is expected to lower tariffs on marine products over a phased period.

According to the agreement, the European Union will cut tariffs on 99.5 percent of goods traded between the two sides over seven years, with duties on Indian marine products set to be reduced to zero.

<a href="https://www.moneycontrol.com/india/stockpricequote/food-processing/apexfrozenfoods/AFF">Apex Frozen Foods</a> jumped 18.85 percent to an intraday high of Rs 312.75 per share. The stock later pared gains to settle at Rs 290.25, up 10.3 percent on the day.

<a href="https://www.moneycontrol.com/india/stockpricequote/aquaculture/avantifeeds/AF21">Avanti Feeds</a> ended nearly 3 percent higher at Rs 776 per share, gaining 2.77 percent. During the session, the stock touched an intraday high of Rs 786.40, up 4.15 percent, after opening with a gap-up gain of about 2 percent.

Shares of Coastal Corporation also advanced, settling at Rs 41.94 per share, up 2.95 percent.

Indian seafood exporters have faced pressure from higher tariffs imposed by the United States since last year. The US remains the largest market for India’s shrimp farmers and exporters.

On a year-to-date basis, Avanti Feeds is down about 8 percent, Apex Frozen Foods is up 6.7 percent, while Coastal Corporation has declined 7.7 percent.
