Wockhardt had acquired French firm Negma to strengthen manufacturing capacity in Europe for formulations and APIs, aside of manufacturing and injectable facility in North Wales, UK. The drug maker has presence in USA, UK, Ireland, Switzerland, Mexico, Russia and many other countries, with research facilities in India and UK, and a manufacturing facility in Ireland. Wockhardt has a significant present in Europe and India with nearly 78 percent of its global revenue coming from international businesses.

Exemptions for US Trade Partners?

While announcing the pharma tariffs, Trump did not specify if the levies would apply over and above the existing tariffs as defined with trade agreements with EU and Japan, and the UK. On September 26, Bloomberg News quoted a US government official who said duties on pharma imports from EU will not exceed 15 percent, as is the tariff framework of the deal. Drug imports from Japan too will be levied the rate defined by the trade pact, said the official.

EU Commission's deputy spokesperson Olof Gill had on Friday cited the trade agreement as an 'insurance' against Trump's fresh and higher tariffs on pharma imports into US. “This clear all-inclusive 15% tariff ceiling for EU exports represents an insurance policy that no higher tariffs will emerge for European economic operators. The EU is the only trade partner to achieve this outcome with the US,” Olof Gill had said.

"There are approaches available whereby one can reduce the impact of tariffs significantly." Khorakiwala also said that the application for a USFDA filing by the company for Zaynich is expected this week. "...generally the FDA takes about 9 to 12 months for approval. Shares of Wockhardt are higher by more than 9 percent on September 29, marking its best day in nearly four months, as investors added bets after clarification emerged that US President Trump's fresh tariff on branded pharma imports will not apply to countries with which American has negotiated agreements - a relief for the European Union and Japan - a move that is expected to help the Indian drugmaker which has manufacturing facilities in Europe.

Wockhardt had acquired French firm Negma to strengthen manufacturing capacity in Europe for formulations and APIs, aside of manufacturing and injectable facility in North Wales, UK. The drug maker has presence in USA, UK, Ireland, Switzerland, Mexico, Russia and many other countries, with research facilities in India and UK, and a manufacturing facility in Ireland. Wockhardt has a significant present in Europe and India with nearly 78 percent of its global revenue coming from international businesses.

Exemptions for US Trade Partners?

While announcing the pharma tariffs, Trump did not specify if the levies would apply over and above the existing tariffs as defined with trade agreements with EU and Japan, and the UK. On September 26, Bloomberg News quoted a US government official who said duties on pharma imports from EU will not exceed 15 percent, as is the tariff framework of the deal. Drug imports from Japan too will be levied the rate defined by the trade pact, said the official.

EU Commission's deputy spokesperson Olof Gill had on Friday cited the trade agreement as an 'insurance' against Trump's fresh and higher tariffs on pharma imports into US. “This clear all-inclusive 15% tariff ceiling for EU exports represents an insurance policy that no higher tariffs will emerge for European economic operators. The EU is the only trade partner to achieve this outcome with the US,” Olof Gill had said.

HSBC said only Sun Pharma has meaningful exposure to patented medicines in the US, adding that while the worst-case earnings hit could be 8 to 10 percent by FY27, it maintained a “Buy” call on the stock with a target price of Rs 1,850 per share.

Jefferies also highlighted Sun Pharma and Biocon as the most exposed but noted that generic exports and Indian CRDMO supplies are unlikely to be impacted, even as contradictions with recent trade pacts mean clarity on the tariff structure is still awaited.

Shares of consumer staples giant Hindustan Unilever Ltd (HUL) tumbled in trade on Monday, September 29, after posting a weaker-than-expected business update for the September quarter, with the Goods and Services tax (GST) rationalisation impacting the sales for the period.

The firm noted that with the revised GST rates, approximately 40 percent of its portfolio including toilet soap, toothpaste, shampoo, hair oil, and others now benefit from a reduced GST rate of five percent, down from the previous GST rates of 12 percent or 18 percent.

"HUL remains committed to supporting the Government’s efforts by ensuring that the GST benefits are being passed on to consumers through competitive pricing and enhanced value across a wide range of products from 22nd September onwards. These reforms are expected to increase disposable income and drive long-term demand across key categories," added the FMCG giant.

The GST move has resulted in postponement of ordering in anticipation of receiving new stocks with updated prices and lower orders across the overall portfolio as consumers delayed their pantry buying.

As existing inventory with old prices in the trade channel (at distributor and retailer level) had to be cleared there has been a transitory impact in the quarter for HUL, with the effect likely to continue in October as well.

"This has led to a short-term impact on sales for the company in September. Given our existing pipeline inventory in the channels, we expect this impact to continue into October as well," added HUL.

Therefore, the Lifebuoy-maker added that for the quarter, the consolidated business growth is likely to be near flat to low-single digits. "This is a one-off, transitory impact, and we anticipate recovery starting November as prices stabilise, underpinned by rising disposable incomes and our ongoing portfolio transformation actions," the firm added.

At 9.40 a.m., shares of <a href="https://www.moneycontrol.com/india/stockpricequote/personal-care/hindustanunilever/HU">HUL</a> were trading lower by 1.4 percent at Rs 2,476.7 per share, trimming some losses, after tumbling 2.5 percent at open.
