The shares of <a href="https://www.moneycontrol.com/india/stockpricequote/telecommunications-equipment/industowers/BI14">Indus Towers</a> surged more than 5 percent on September 5 after latest data on NSE showed that promoter Bharti Airtel bought nearly 68.76 lakh shares of the company between August 25 and September 1 in five tranches through open market operations.

<a href="https://www.moneycontrol.com/india/stockpricequote/telecommunications-service/bhartiairtel/BA08">Bharti Airtel</a> is the largest promoter of Indus Towers, holding 50 percent stake in the company as on June 30, according to data on the latter's shareholding pattern available on NSE. Indus Towers shares gained 5 percent to trade at around Rs 342 apiece on September 5.

The acquisition price has not been disclosed yet. The market capitalization of Indus Towers currently stands at around Rs 89,025 crore, while that of Bharti Airtel is Rs 56,513 crore. The shares of the telecom company were up nearly 1 percent.

Earlier this month, Indus Towers announced that it has received <a href="https://www.moneycontrol.com/news/business/markets/indus-towers-shares-in-focus-on-foray-into-african-markets-brokerages-remain-bullish-13514718.html">approval to foray into African markets</a>, beginning with Nigeria, Uganda, and Zambia as these markets offer attractive prospects for revenue diversification, operational scalability, and long-term value creation. This would mark the first-ever overseas expansion for Indus Towers.

"Indus Towers will leverage its robust financial position and anchor customer relationship with Bharti Airtel to establish a strong and competitive presence in these regions. As part of its broader growth strategy, the company will continue to evaluate expansion opportunities in other African markets where Airtel has an established presence," it said.

Citi maintained a 'Buy' rating on Indus Towers with a target price of Rs 460 per share.. The latest target price implies an upside potential of nearly 42 percent from the previous closing price.

Indus Towers shares have declined nearly 2 percent in the past one month, and around 24 percent in the past one year. The stock has gained nearly 46 percent in the past five years. Its P/E ratio currently stands at 8.77.

Earlier yesterday, the Economic Times reported citing people familiar with the matter that the <a href="https://www.moneycontrol.com/news/business/centre-looking-for-investor-willing-to-infuse-1-billion-into-vodafone-idea-says-report-13521678.html">central government is looking for a strategic investor</a> who is willing to commit $1 billion (over Rs 8,800 crore) into debt-ridden Vodafone Idea for a 12-13 percent stake.

Promoters Aditya Birla Group (ABG) and UK's Vodafone will have the option to dilute some of their stake as the government wishes to remain invested in the telecom giant for some more time, the report added citing sources. The government wishes that the new investor takes Vodafone Idea forward with new ideas as well, it further said.

This is one of the many ways, including AGR relief, that the government is exploring in order to save one of the largest telecom companies in India from shutting down, the report said. The government has identified some potential suitors, and talks are likely to pick up pace in the near future, the report further said.

Vodafone Idea has been struggling with debt, owing nearly Rs 83,400 crore in adjusted gross revenue (AGR) dues, with annual payments of around Rs 18,000 crore scheduled from March 2025.

The telecom service provider is exploring non-bank avenues to fund its capital expenditure plans, as negotiations with lenders remain stalled due to uncertainty over adjusted gross revenue (AGR) dues, outgoing CEO Akshaya Moondra said on August 18 during the June quarter earnings call.

Vi has also formally urged the government to settle the AGR matter ahead of the March 2026 deadline, which Moondra said would help reassure banks and unlock financing support.

"Given the fact that we are keen on maintaining a continuity of our capex, which has been going on since last year, we are looking at non-banking sources of funding, also not the full amount of Rs 25,000 crore that we have talked about, but a lesser amount so that we can continue with the capex cycle," Moondra said.

The index mirrored the larger fall in the benchmark indices which gave up early gains, with the Sensex dropping 700 points from its day’s high and the Nifty slipping below the 24,650 level, as investors booked profits.

Sensex, which climbed 318.55 points to 81,036.56 in early trade following GST rate cut announcements and firm global cues, retreated to 80,353. The broader Nifty fell to 24,633 after breaching the 24,700 mark.

According to a regulatory filing, SoftBank's investment arm SVF II Ostrich (DE) LLC <a href="https://www.moneycontrol.com/news/business/softbank-sells-2-stake-in-bhavish-aggarwal-led-ola-electric-13521302.html">disposed 94.9 million equity shares of Ola Electric</a> between July 15 and September 2 this year. The sale crossed the 2 percent threshold mandated for disclosure under SEBI’s takeover regulations.

Prior to the transaction, SoftBank held 786.6 million shares, representing 17.83 percent of the company’s paid-up capital. Post the sale, its holding stands at 691.6 million shares or 15.68 percent.

SoftBank has been an early backer of Ola Electric, investing in multiple funding rounds before its IPO. The Japanese investment giant remains among the largest institutional shareholders in the company even after the latest stake dilution.

Goldman Sachs has maintained its 'Buy' rating on Ola Electric shares and raised its price target to Rs 72 apiece, according to CNBC-TV18. This implies an upside potential of nearly 12 percent from the stock's previous closing price of Rs 64.50 apiece.

Ola Electric shares tumbled more than 8 percent to trade at Rs 59.32 apiece. The stock has now fallen more than 14 percent in two consecutive sessions. This came after nearly 80 percent rally in nearly three weeks, buoyed by multiple factors.

The shares had <a href="https://www.moneycontrol.com/news/business/ipo/ola-electric-ipo-listing-stock-market-debut-rs-76-per-share-12791549.html">debuted flat at the IPO price</a> of Rs 76 apiece in August 2024, but surged significantly on the debut day itself. It rallied as much as 63 percent in nearly a month after debut to hit a 52-week high of Rs 123.9 apiece in September 2024. The Bengaluru-based startup sold 18,972 units in August, though its sales were down 31 percent from a year earlier.

In an exchange filing released on August 26, the company said, "Ola Electric, India’s largest pure-play EV company, today announced that it has received Certification for Compliance with the eligibility assessment requirements under the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme for automobile and auto components sector, for its Gen 3 scooter portfolio. This certification was granted by the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) under the aegis of the Ministry of Heavy Industries, Government of India to all of the seven Ola S1 Gen 3 scooters."

The EV-bike maker said its Gen 2 and Gen 3 scooter portfolio are now PLI-certified. Its Gen 3 portfolio, which comprises S1 Pro 3 kWh, S1 Pro 4 kWh, S1 Pro+ 4 kWh, S1 X 2 kWh, S1 X 3 kWh, S1 X 4 kWh and S1 X+ 4 kWh, comprises majority of its current sales. As a result, this certification is set to significantly enhance its profitability from Q2FY26 onwards, the company said.

The PLI certification makes Ola Electric eligible for incentives ranging from 13% to 18% of the determined sales value (DSV) until 2028, it added.

Ola Electric shares drop 8% after SoftBank sells 2% stake in EV scooter-maker

Its Gen 3 portfolio, which comprises S1 Pro 3 kWh, S1 Pro 4 kWh, S1 Pro+ 4 kWh, S1 X 2 kWh, S1 X 3 kWh, S1 X 4 kWh and S1 X+ 4 kWh, comprises majority of its current sales. As a result, this certification is set to significantly enhance its profitability from Q2FY26 onwards, the company said.

The PLI certification makes Ola Electric eligible for incentives ranging from 13% to 18% of the determined sales value (DSV) until 2028, it added.
