The shares of the automaker dropped to an intraday low of Rs 361 apiece, before recovering some losses. At close, the stock was down 1.4 percent at Rs 368.90 apiece.
<h3><strong>Tata Motors PV Q3 Results:</strong></h3>
Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles reported a <a href="https://www.moneycontrol.com/automobile/tata-motors-pv-slips-into-loss-in-q3-as-jlr-cyber-attack-cripples-margins-article-13813549.html">consolidated net loss of Rs 3,486 crore</a> for Q3 FY26, as against a net profit of Rs 5,406 crore in Q3 FY25. The earnings were impacted by a one-time exceptional cost of Rs 1,597 crore.

The automaker's revenue from operations fell 26 percent YoY to Rs 70,108 crore.

Tata Motors PV said that the cyber attack incident at Jaguar Land Rover last year continued to impact its earnings in Q3. However, it expects strong recovery in Q4.

"The overall global demand continues to remain challenging. We will step up our brand-led actions at JLR to drive up demand for our products and execute enterprise missions programme aimed at enhancing savings and cash flows. Domestic business continues to witness robust demand, and we will accelerate growth through exciting launches and innovations. Overall, we expect a sharp improvement in Q4, led by normalization of JLR volumes," the automaker said.
<h3><strong>Motilal Oswal on Tata Motors PV:</strong></h3>
Motilal Oswal said the firm’s net loss was much higher than its estimate, largely due to multiple headwinds in JLR, such as continued impact of the cyber incident, weak volumes in key regions and higher VME. “While JLR production is likely to normalize in 4Q, end demand remains weak in key regions and VME is likely to remain elevated at least in the near term,” it said.

The domestic brokerage added that while India business continues to do well, Jaguar Land Rover continues to face multiple headwinds. These include luxury tax in China hurting demand, impact of US tariffs on demand, stringent EU regulations including emissions and battery rules of origin, rising costs of doing business in UK, and rising VME given weak demand in key regions.

“Given the weaker-than-expected performance in 3Q, we now lower our EBITDA by 22%/4% for FY26E/FY27E. Given the significant challenges at JLR, we retain our Sell rating on the stock with an SoTP-based TP of INR323 per share. We continue to value both JLR and India PV business at 2x and 15x EV/EBITDA,” it added.
<h3><strong>JM Financial on Tata Motors PV:</strong></h3>
JM Financial said that JLR’s EBIT margin came in at -6.9 percent, impacted by production losses due to a cyberattack, tariff-related expenses, higher VME, unfavourable forex, and higher warranty costs.

“While global demand remains challenging, the company expects a recovery in 4Q led by normalisation of volumes and has therefore maintained its guidance of EBIT in the range of 0%-2% (-3% over 9MFY26) and negative free cash flow of £2.2-£2.5bn (-£3bn over 9MFY26). On JLR’s margin front, we expect higher VME, warranty costs and new model launch expenses to continue weighing on profitability. On the other hand, the India PV business posted an EBITDA margin of 6.8% (- 80bps YoY, +110bps QoQ), impacted by higher raw material and other expenses led by new launch costs,” it added.

Owing to JLR’s challenges, JM Financial maintained its ‘Reduce’ rating on the stock with a target price of Rs 357 per share. This implies a downside potential of nearly 5 percent from the stock’s previous closing price.
<h3><strong>HDFC Securities on Tata Motors PV:</strong></h3>
Besides weak demand globally, Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) is also facing structural headwinds from its business in China as JLR’s addressable market gets disrupted by a higher luxury tax at the top end of its portfolio and by strong competition from Chinese OEMs at the lower end, said HDFC Securities.

“The India PV segment continues to do well and is expected to benefit from the ramp-up of Sierra’s sales, and thus benefit from higher operating leverage and improved mix,” it added.

UBS kept a ‘Sell’ call on the stock, with a target price of Rs 310 apiece. The international brokerage said that margin and FCF pressures are set to intensify in FY27–28 as competitive pressures persist and BEV headwinds weigh, warning that JLR's earnings risks are rising

CLSA maintained its ‘Outperform’ rating on the stock, with a target price of Rs 450 per share. The international brokerage said that JLR volume recovery should strengthen through FY26 on easing supply constraints and new model traction, and maintains confidence in FY26 free‑cash‑flow guidance.

JP Morgan remained ‘Neutral’ on the stock, with a target price of Rs 365 apiece. It said that uncertainty around JLR remains high, with China still a "challenging market" and FY27 visibility limited despite better‑than‑feared recent performance.

Goldman Sachs also remained ‘Neutral’ on the stock with a target price of Rs 380 apiece. It said that JLR production has normalized, but warned that ASPs may moderate due to China discounts, even as new EV and platform launches slated for FY27–28 support medium‑term growth.

Nuvama in its latest note said that the "worst is behind" for cigarette stocks, according to NDTV Profit. The report further quoted the international brokerage as saying that the price hikes have already started and cigarette volumes may not see double digit decline next year.

Cigarette prices have increased sharply showing pricing power, Nuvama said, adding that it expects the companies to implement two-three staggered price hikes over the next few months to offset the tax impact.

Nuvama doesn't expect any significant tax hikes in the next two years, which provides medium to long term visibility, the report added. The international brokerage added that cigarette stocks are in a heavily sold zone and have high comfort in valuatiions.
<h3><strong>Block deals:</strong></h3>
ITC shares saw a number of block deals being executed at a premium to its current levels. According to data, more than 1.3 crore shares were traded via block deals at an average price of Rs 321.80 apiece.

This marked a premium of nearly 4 percent on the stock’s previous closing price of Rs 310.2 apiece.
<h3><strong>Value buying:</strong></h3>
The sharp rise in the stocks also comes on the back of value buying, after days of underperformance after the tax hike was notified earlier this year. In January, ITC, Godfrey Phillips India, and VST Industries shares dropped 20.1 percent, 26.3 percent and 8.9 percent, respectively.
<h3><strong>Price hike:</strong></h3>
Cigarette prices have <a href="https://www.moneycontrol.com/health-and-fitness/cigarette-prices-increase-by-up-to-rs-55-per-pack-expert-suggests-smart-ways-to-quit-smoking-save-money-article-13805979.html">risen sharply after the new excise duty regime </a>came into force, with a pack of 10 sticks now costing at least Rs 22-55 more than earlier. This came after the government hiked duties on cigarettes and other tobacco products.

The Parliament in December last year approved the Central Excise (Amendment) Bill, 2025, clearing the way for a sharp increase in duties on cigarettes and other tobacco products. It replaces a temporary levy on cigarettes and tobacco products.

The excise duty would be imposed on cigarettes in addition to a 40 percent GST, according to an order. The finance ministry notified that an excise duty of Rs 2,050–8,500 per 1,000 sticks, depending on cigarette length, took effect from February 1.

The duty translates into a 22-28 percent increase in overall costs for 75-85 mm cigarettes, analysts at ICICI Securities said. Distributors said premium cigarettes of 76 mm length are now likely to be priced Rs 50-55 higher per pack of 10 sticks, depending on the brand. It should be noted that cigarette manufacturers have yet not formally announce revised maximum retail prices.

The rise in the cigarette prices may have boosted the stocks.

Godfrey Phillips meanwhile reported a consolidated net profit of Rs 343.29 crore for Q3 FY26, marking a 9 percent YoY rise from the Rs 315.85 crore net profit reported in Q3 FY25. The firm’s revenue from operations meanwhile rose around 16 percent YoY to Rs 2,189.93 crore during the quarter under review.

Godfrey Phillips India has cigarette brands like Four Square, Red and White, Cavanders, Tipper and North Pole. It also manufactures and distributes the brand Marlboro under a license agreement with Philip Morris. The rise in Godfrey Phillips stock comes ahead of results of its promoter Phillip Morris.

The heavy electrical equipment maker reported a 90.3 percent year-on-year jump in net profit to Rs 261 crore for the third quarter, while total revenue rose 28.5 percent from a year ago. The company’s order backlog stood at Rs 29,872 crore.

Brokerage firm Jefferies said the company’s EBITDA beat estimates by 43 percent, aided by 420 basis points higher-than-expected EBITDA margins at 16.6 percent. Emkay Global upgraded the stock to ‘Add’ from ‘Sell’ and raised its price target by about 20 percent to Rs 20,825 from Rs 17,400, citing a robust opportunity pipeline supported by the company’s diversified product portfolio.

Meanwhile, shares of tyre maker <a href="https://www.moneycontrol.com/india/stockpricequote/tyres/mrf/MRF">MRF</a> surged over 10 percent to Rs 1,49,070 per share on the NSE. The company reported a more than two-fold jump in net profit to Rs 679 crore for the December quarter, while revenue from operations rose 15.3 percent year-on-year.

In contrast, shares of BEML declined over 5 percent to Rs 1,655.40 per share on the NSE after the company posted weak earnings.

BEML reported a consolidated loss of Rs 22.38 crore for the quarter ended December 31, 2025, weighed down by higher expenses. The company had posted a consolidated profit of Rs 24.41 crore in the corresponding quarter a year ago.

The company’s consolidated income rose to Rs 1,087.13 crore during the quarter from Rs 880.28 crore in the year-ago period. Total expenses increased to Rs 1,112.54 crore from Rs 850.70 crore a year earlier, according to a regulatory filing. BEML operates across mining and construction, defence, and rail and metro segments.

Q3 results impact: Hitachi Energy, MRF shares rise up to 12% on jump in net profit, BEML declines 5%

Shares of Hitachi Energy India Ltd and MRF Ltd rallied sharply on Friday after the companies reported strong December quarter earnings, while state-owned BEML Ltd fell over weak results.

Shares of Hitachi Energy India rose as much as 14 percent to an intraday high of Rs 21,889 per share on the NSE. The stock opened with a gap-up gain of 8.86 percent and extended its advance for the second straight session.

The heavy electrical equipment maker reported a 90.3 percent year-on-year jump in net profit to Rs 261 crore for the third quarter, while total revenue rose 28.5 percent from a year ago. The company’s order backlog stood at Rs 29,872 crore.

Brokerage firm Jefferies said the company’s EBITDA beat estimates by 43 percent, aided by 420 basis points higher-than-expected EBITDA margins at 16.6 percent. Emkay Global upgraded the stock to ‘Add’ from ‘Sell’ and raised its price target by about 20 percent to Rs 20,825 from Rs 17,400, citing a robust opportunity pipeline supported by the company’s diversified product portfolio.

Meanwhile, shares of tyre maker MRF surged over 10 percent to Rs 1,49,070 per share on the NSE. The company reported a more than two-fold jump in net profit to Rs 679 crore for the December quarter, while revenue from operations rose 15.3 percent year-on-year.

In contrast, shares of BEML declined over 5 percent to Rs 1,655.40 per share on the NSE after the company posted weak earnings.

BEML reported a consolidated loss of Rs 22.38 crore for the quarter ended December 31, 2025, weighed down by higher expenses. The company had posted a consolidated profit of Rs 24.41 crore in the corresponding quarter a year ago.

The company’s consolidated income rose to Rs 1,087.13 crore during the quarter from Rs 880.28 crore in the year-ago period. Total expenses increased to Rs 1,112.54 crore from Rs 850.70 crore a year earlier, according to a regulatory filing. BEML operates across mining and construction, defence, and rail and metro segments.

The index has now fallen nearly 9 percent in just three days amid a global tech selloff since Anthropic launched a new legal AI tool. The index is now heading for its worst week in over four months, and is currently the worst performing sectoral index on the markets today.

AI developer Anthropic launched plug-ins for its Claude Cowork agent last week that can automate tasks across legal, sales, marketing and data analysis. The move has triggered worries of an impending AI-fueled disruption of the data and professional services industry, which were once seen as major beneficiaries of the AI era, according to traders and analysts.
<h3><strong>Key technical levels for Nifty IT to watch out for:</strong></h3>
The IT stocks have faced difficulty in the short term, as indicated by the failure of the Nifty IT sectoral index to hold key moving averages and move into the oversold area, said Siddharth Maurya, Founder &amp; Managing Director at Vibhavangal Anukulakara.

The analyst added that this is an indication of increased volatility, and such an indicator is not related to the market's failure to sustain an emerging trend. “At this juncture, the sectoral IT stocks must fight to hold on to the support zones, where the stock market may pick up gradually,” he further said.
<h3><strong>'Healthy pause than a structural breakdown':</strong></h3>
Darshan Rathod, COO of MULTYFI, said that Indian IT stocks are currently undergoing a correction, but this looks more like a healthy pause than a structural breakdown. He explained that after a strong run in the last cycle, valuations became stretched, especially in large and mid-cap IT names. As growth visibility moderated and global tech spending turned cautious, markets started adjusting prices to more realistic expectations, he added.

“From a technical view, most IT stocks are correcting near their long-term support levels and remain above key moving averages on higher timeframes. RSI levels have cooled into neutral zones, which usually signals consolidation rather than panic selling. This suggests that momentum has weakened, but the broader trend is still intact,” Rathod said.

Tushar Badjate, Director of Badjate Stock &amp; Shares, said that Nifty IT has slipped below its 200 DMA on the daily timeframe, confirming a bearish trend shift. He added that the recent fall signals continuation in selling rather than exhaustion. While the index is near trendline support, momentum remains weak, suggesting any bounce is likely to be corrective, he added.

“On the downside, 34,000–33,000 emerges as a key demand zone, supported by the weekly SMA around 34,300, quarterly 20 EMA, and the latest monthly higher low. Until the index decisively reclaims 37,500–38,000, rallies should be viewed as sell-on-rise opportunities,” according to Badjate.

"The index has broken important support levels, and momentum remains negative despite nearing oversold territory. Major stocks like <a href="https://www.moneycontrol.com/india/stockpricequote/computers-software/infosys/IT">Infosys</a>, Tata Consultancy Services (<a href="https://www.moneycontrol.com/india/stockpricequote/computers-software/tataconsultancyservices/TCS">TCS</a>), and <a href="https://www.moneycontrol.com/india/stockpricequote/computers-software/hcltechnologies/HCL02">HCL Tech</a> have witnessed technical breakdowns and failed to sustain above resistance zones. RSI readings suggest limited buying strength, while volumes indicate selling pressure. Overall, the trend remains bearish, and any short-term bounce is likely to face resistance. Investors are advised to follow a sell-on-rise strategy and avoid aggressive long positions until the sector shows clear signs of reversal above key resistance levels," said Drumil Vithlani, Technical Analyst at Bonanza.

"With financing costs firmed up, we can concentrate on design innovation, sustainability integrations, and long-term urban infrastructure linkages that buyers increasingly value. Overall, we view this stability as a foundation to build market confidence," said Uddhav Poddar, Chairman and Managing Director of Bhumika Group.

The RBI’s six-member Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) on February 6 unanimously voted to keep the repo rate unchanged at 5.25 percent, while retaining a neutral policy stance. The decision was seen as balancing growth considerations with inflation management.

Market sentiment was also supported by the government’s continued focus on infrastructure development in the Union Budget 2026.

Manoj Gaur, Chairman and Managing Director of Gaurs Group, said easing retail inflation and higher infrastructure spending could support growth and asset creation. "This will go a long way in ensuring India’s growth and create demand for asset creation, benefitting the real estate sector,” he said.

The RBI kept its benchmark interest rate unchanged as inflation remained at manageable levels and growth concerns eased amid increased government spending and lower tariff pressures following a trade deal with the United States.
