Shares of oil marketing companies and crude-sensitive stocks like Hindustan Petroleum, BPCL, and Asian Paints fell up to 2% after Brent crude neared $100 a barrel amid West Asia tensions and US warnings of military action against Iran.

Shares of Hindustan Petroleum Corporation, Bharat Petroleum Corporation, Indian Oil Corporation and other crude-sensitive shares declined up to 2 percent in Wednesday’s trade after Brent crude rose about 4 percent overnight to near USD 100 a barrel.

The decline in oil marketing companies (OMCs) came amid higher crude oil prices and uncertainty over a possible peace agreement in West Asia.

Brent crude, the global oil benchmark, was trading 0.28 percent lower at USD 98.20 per barrel in futures trade. Analysts said prices had moved above the USD 98-a-barrel mark after US President Donald Trump warned of military action against Iran if a peace agreement was not reached before Wednesday.

Trump said that if the ceasefire ends without an agreement, he is prepared to resume attacks on Iran. &quot;I expect to be bombing because I think that’s a better attitude to go in with,&quot; he told CNBC’s ‘Squawk Box’.

Shares of Hindustan Petroleum Corporation fell 0.72 percent to Rs 381.65 on the NSE, while Bharat Petroleum Corporation declined 1.05 percent to Rs 314.70. Indian Oil Corporation Ltd was down 0.28 percent at Rs 146.90.

Higher oil prices are seen as negative for India, the world’s third-largest crude importer, as they can widen the fiscal deficit, push up inflation and impact growth.

Paint stocks also came under pressure due to rising input costs linked to crude oil. Shares of Asian Paints Ltd fell up to 1.7 percent to Rs 2,500 per share on the NSE.

Shares of Eternal declined 0.4 percent to Rs 258.41. Shares of InterGlobe Aviation, the parent of IndiGo, also fell 0.81 percent to Rs 4,655.

HPCL, IndiGo, Asian Paints, other crude sensitive shares decline as Brent crude rises 4%

The IT services firm posted 4% rise in consolidated net profit at Rs 4,488 crore and revenue jumped 12.3% at Rs 33,981 crore for the quarter ended March 31, 2026.

Pharma major Aurobindo Pharma's shares trading marginally lower after the company set April 23 as the opening date for its Rs 800 crore buyback offer.

The closing date for the buyback is April 29, Aurobindo Pharma said in a regulatory filing.

Cyient DLM shares jumped 4.5% despite the company reporting 27.7% fall in its Q4 net profit to Rs 22.4 crore against Rs 31 crore, YoY.

Tata Elxsi share price declined more than 2 percent despite better Q4 earnings with profit surging 27.8% to Rs 220.4 crore against Rs 172.4 crore, YoY.

PNC Infratech shares rose nearly 9 percent after the company emerged as the lowest (L1) bidder for two HAM-based national highway projects worth Rs 3,483 crore.

BEML shares surged 5 percent after the company secured an order from the Ministry of Defence for the supply of trawl assemblies, with a contract value of Rs 590 crore.

Market participants said news flow remains a key driver in the current environment, with investors closely tracking corporate announcements and sector-specific triggers. With earnings season in progress, company-specific updates are expected to drive further volatility.

Indian equities saw stock-specific action on April 22, with several stocks registering sharp gains and losses amid a sharp fall in the broader market.

Among the gainers, Sunteck Realty rose 9 percent after reporting strong earnings, with profit jumping 24.7 percent to Rs 62.8 crore from Rs 50.4 crore and revenue surging 64.5 percent to Rs 339 crore from Rs 206 crore. PNC Infratech advanced 7 percent after emerging as the lowest (L1) bidder for two HAM-based national highway projects worth Rs 3,483 crore.

Midcap and smallcap stocks continued to see selective interest. Praj Industries gained 4 percent after setting up an AI-powered precision fermentation lab to accelerate its bioeconomy push and signing an MoU with BRIC–NCCS. Tanla Platforms rose 3 percent as its board is set to consider a third buyback in five years.

On the downside, Transformer and Rectifiers fell 8 percent after reporting a decline in net profit to Rs 91.4 crore from Rs 94.2 crore year-on-year, despite revenue rising to Rs 783 crore from Rs 670 crore. The company also reported EBITDA of Rs 120 crore, with margin compression to 15.14 percent from 19.4 percent.

Mid-sized IT stocks were under pressure after HCL Technologies reported weaker earnings. Persistent Systems lost 4.5 percent, Hexaware Technologies declined 4.2 percent, Tata Elxsi fell 4 percent and Coforge dropped 2.5 percent.

Among sectors, Nifty IT was the biggest loser, down 2.8 percent, followed by Nifty Private Bank, which fell 0.6 percent. On the gaining side, Nifty Metal and Nifty FMCG rose 0.5 percent each, while Nifty PSU Bank and Nifty Realty advanced 0.4 percent each.

Market breadth remained positive, with 1,998 stocks advancing and 1,470 declining on the BSE, indicating broad participation.

Traders said the market continues to remain stock-specific, with earnings visibility and news flow driving price action. While largecaps remain relatively stable, midcaps and smallcaps are witnessing sharper moves on both sides. Volatility remains contained, though participants remain cautious amid mixed global cues and ahead of key domestic triggers.

PNC Infratech

Aurobindo Pharma

The pharma company has decided to initiate a buyback of 54.23 lakh equity shares worth Rs 800 crore at a price of Rs 1,475 per share, starting April 23. The closing date will be April 29.

BEML

The company has secured an order from the Ministry of Defence for the supply of trawl assemblies, with a contract value of Rs 590 crore.

Hindustan Zinc

The Board will meet on April 24 to consider the audited standalone and consolidated financial results for the fourth quarter and the year ended March 2026, as well as the declaration of the first interim dividend on equity shares, if any, for FY27.

Karnataka Bank

Fidelity Securities Fund, through its Fidelity Blue Chip Growth Fund, has acquired 20.17 lakh shares (a 1.76 percent stake) in Onesource Specialty Pharma for Rs 308.7 crore. The purchase price was Rs 1,530 per share.

However, Authum Investment &amp;amp; Infrastructure sold 7.77 lakh shares (a 0.67 percent stake) in Onesource at Rs 1,530.09 per share, valued at Rs 118.9 crore, while Nova Global Opportunities Fund PCC – Touchstone offloaded 10.57 lakh shares (a 0.92 percent stake) at Rs 1,530 per share, amounting to Rs 161.85 crore.

As of March 2026, Authum Investment held a 5.16 percent stake in Onesource Specialty Pharma.

Shringar House of Mangalsutra

Thakkar Vardhilal Shivrambhai exited the mangalsutra maker by selling his entire holding of 15.55 lakh shares for Rs 31.9 crore at Rs 205.18 per share. However, Wiinance Financial Services and Arthkumbh Ventures were buyers, though not at the same price.

Wiinance Financial Services bought 7.55 lakh shares at Rs 206.31 per share, valued at Rs 15.57 crore, while Arthkumbh Ventures LLP acquired 8 lakh shares for Rs 16.33 crore at Rs 204.13 per share.

Shyam Telecom

Meghna Agarwal has acquired 1.09 lakh shares (a 0.97 percent stake) in Shyam Telecom at Rs 12.81 per share, amounting to Rs 14.01 lakh.

Fidelity Securities Fund on April 21 has bought nearly 1.8 percent equity stake in Onesource Specialty Pharma, the contract development and manufacturing organization, via open market transactions.

Onesource Specialty Pharma shares rose seven-tenth of a percent to close at Rs 1,560.7 amid high volumes after significant recovery from day's low on the National Stock Exchange. The stock also tested 200-day EMA intraday while sustaining above other key moving averages 20, 50 and 100-day EMAs.

Wiinance Financial Services has bought 7.55 lakh shares at Rs 206.31 per share, valued at Rs 15.57 crore while Arthkumbh Ventures LLP picked up 8 lakh shares for Rs 16.33 crore at Rs 204.13 per share.

The brisk action was also seen in Shyam Telecom, and Mayasheel Ventures. Meghna Agarwal has acquired 1.09 lakh shares (0.97 percent stake) in Shyam Telecom at Rs 12.81 per share, amounting to Rs 14.01 lakh, while Capacious Wealth Management LLP sold 1.11 lakh shares in Mayasheel Ventures for Rs 56.23 lakh at Rs 50.66 per share.

Shyam Telecom shares were locked in 20 percent upper circuit at Rs 12.84 after gap-up opening amid high volumes on the National Stock Exchange, climbing above all key moving averages, whereas Mayasheel Ventures shares fell 8.32 percent to Rs 51.25.
