The Nifty 50 bounced back with a 1.8 percent rally after a day of sharp correction, following a five-day pause in attacks on Iran’s energy infrastructure by the US. However, caution prevails as market participants await more clarity regarding the Strait of Hormuz. Momentum indicators showed some improvement, but the overall trend remains strongly in favour of bears unless the Nifty 50 convincingly moves back above the 24,000 zone. Follow-up buying is necessary to ensure some stability, which could help the index face immediate resistance at 23,000–23,100. However, in case of a reversal, the 22,700–22,600 zone can act as immediate support, according to experts.

Special Formation: The Nifty 50 formed a small-bodied bullish candle with upper and lower shadows on the daily timeframe after a gap-up opening, indicating uncertainty among market participants and a phase of indecision following recent volatility. All key moving averages are sloping downward, with the 100-day EMA on the verge of breaking below the 200-day EMA. The RSI climbed above the reference line to 34.08 but remains below the 40 level. The MACD continues to sustain below the signal and zero lines, while the histogram suggests fading weakness but remains below the zero line. All this indicates a cautious undertone despite some signs of recovery.

Special Formation: The Bank Nifty bounced back with a 2.27 percent rally and formed a small-bodied bullish candle with shadows on both sides, indicating a phase of indecision after the recent pullback. The lower high–lower low formation remains intact, while all key moving averages are trending downward, with the 50-day EMA moving closer to the 200-day EMA on the downside. The RSI climbed to 31.37 but remains below the 40 zone, while the MACD remains well below the zero and signal lines, with the histogram sustaining below the zero line, though showing fading weakness. All this indicates that the broader trend remains weak despite the short-term bounce.



3) Nifty Call Options Data

According to the monthly options data, the 23,500 strike holds the maximum Call open interest (with 52.64 lakh contracts). This level can act as a key resistance level for the Nifty in the short term. It was followed by the 23,000 strike (46.44 lakh contracts) and 23,700 strike (22.42 lakh contracts).

Maximum Call writing was observed at the 23,000 strike, which saw an addition of 15.94 lakh contracts, followed by the 22,900 and 23,500 strikes, which added 14.02 lakh and 11.36 lakh contracts, respectively. The maximum Call unwinding was seen at the 22,600 strike, which shed 3.71 lakh contracts, followed by the 22,500 and 23,350 strikes, which shed 3.01 lakh and 67,665 contracts, respectively.



4) Nifty Put Options Data

On the Put side, the maximum Put open interest was seen at the 23,000 strike (with 49.7 lakh contracts), which can act as a key level for the Nifty in the short term. It was followed by the 22,500 strike (40.58 lakh contracts) and the 22,800 strike (23.19 lakh contracts).

The maximum Put writing was placed at the 23,000 strike, which saw an addition of 18.98 lakh contracts, followed by the 22,900 and 22,800 strikes, which added 15.72 lakh and 12.98 lakh contracts, respectively. The maximum Put unwinding was seen at the 23,300 strike, which shed 1.48 lakh contracts, followed by the 23,400 and 23,500 strikes, which shed 1.07 lakh and 75,270 contracts, respectively.



5) Bank Nifty Call Options Data

According to the monthly options data, the 54,000 strike holds the maximum Call open interest, with 6.35 lakh contracts. This can act as a key resistance level for the index in the short term. It was followed by the 53,000 strike (4.03 lakh contracts) and the 52,500 strike (3.33 lakh contracts).

Maximum Call writing was observed at the 52,600 strike (with the addition of 1.45 lakh contracts), followed by the 52,500 strike (1.18 lakh contracts) and 52,900 strike (1.03 lakh contracts). The maximum Call unwinding was seen at the 51,500 strike, which shed 86,010 contracts, followed by the 52,000 and 53,500 strikes, which shed 41,880 and 34,620 contracts, respectively.



6) Bank Nifty Put Options Data

On the Put side, the maximum Put open interest was seen at the 52,000 strike (with 5.55 lakh contracts), which can act as a key support level for the index. This was followed by the 52,500 strike (4.37 lakh contracts) and the 51,500 strike (3.94 lakh contracts).

The maximum Put writing was placed at the 52,500 strike (which added 1.81 lakh contracts), followed by the 52,200 (1.67 lakh contracts) and 52,000 (1.36 lakh contracts). The maximum Put unwinding was seen at the 51,500 strike, which shed 1.22 lakh contracts, followed by the 53,500 and 53,700 strikes, which shed 88,500 and 44,730 contracts, respectively.

The Nifty Put-Call ratio (PCR), which indicates the mood of the market, jumps to 1.07 on March 24, compared to a 0.84 in previous session.

The increasing PCR, or being higher than 0.7 or surpassing 1, means traders are selling more Put options than Call options, which generally indicates the firming up of a bullish sentiment in the market. If the ratio falls below 0.7 or moves towards 0.5, then it indicates selling in Calls is higher than selling in Puts, reflecting a bearish mood in the market.

The India VIX, which measures expected market volatility, declined 7.44 percent to 24.74, providing some comfort to bulls. However, it needs to fall decisively below the 20 level to offer further support to the bullish sentiment.

The Nifty 50 witnessed a relief rally of nearly 1.8 percent on March 24 after a 2.6 percent correction in the previous session, tracking hopes of de-escalation in the Iran conflict. The index also almost filled the Monday's long bearish gap, and while there is some improvement in momentum indicators, the overall setup still favours the bears.

Hence, follow-through buying interest is needed in the upcoming sessions. Overall, the index needs to reclaim and sustain above the 24,000–24,100 zone for a strong uptrend to emerge. In the immediate term, the index is expected to face resistance at the 23,000-23,100 levels, followed by 23,400–23,500. Immediate support is seen at 22,700, followed by 22,500, according to experts.

The Nifty 50 opened 365 points higher at 22,878 and witnessed some profit booking. The index hit an intraday low of 22,624 amid morning volatility but gained further strength in the latter part of the session. It remained in positive territory throughout the session and hit a day’s high of 23,057 before closing at 22,912, up 400 points (1.78 percent).

On the daily charts, the index formed a small-bodied bullish candle with upper and lower shadows, indicating uncertainty among market participants and highlighting a phase of indecision after recent volatility.

The negative chart pattern of lower tops and bottoms continues, and the present upmove is expected to form a new lower top in the pattern, which needs confirmation at higher levels.

According to Nagaraj Shetti, Senior Technical Research Analyst at HDFC Securities, Tuesday’s sustainable bounce-back could be a positive sign for bulls attempting a comeback. However, the market needs to show strength by sustaining above crucial hurdles such as the 23,500–23,600 levels to confirm a near-term bottom reversal pattern.

Any failure to sustain at these hurdle levels could drag the Nifty down to the 22,600–22,500 range again in the near term, he said.

Monthly options data suggests that the Nifty 50 is likely to remain within a broad range of 22,500–23,500 in the short term. Within this range, the 23,000 level may act as a crucial pivot for directional movement on either side.

The maximum Call open interest was at the 23,500 strike, followed by the 23,000 and 23,700 strikes. Maximum Call writing was seen at the 23,000, 22,900, and 23,500 strikes. On the Put side, the 23,000 strike holds the maximum open interest, followed by the 22,500 and 22,800 strikes. Maximum Put writing was observed at the 23,000, 22,900, and 22,800 strikes.

Meanwhile, India VIX, the fear gauge, declined 7.44 percent to 24.74, offering some comfort to bulls, though it remains in an elevated zone. A consistent decline below the 20 mark is necessary for bulls to regain strong confidence.

Bank Nifty

The banking index also witnessed a gap-up opening and ended the day at 52,606, registering a healthy gain of 1,168 points (2.27 percent). On the daily chart, it formed a small-bodied candle with shadows on both sides, indicating a phase of indecision following the recent pullback.

However, the index failed to fill Monday’s long bearish gap and could not reclaim the 53,000 zone, though the gap was partially filled. Overall, the setup remains weak despite Tuesday’s pullback. The RSI rose to 31.37 and showed a bullish crossover but remains below the 40 mark, while the MACD continues to stay well below the reference and zero lines.

“Going forward, the 53,000–53,100 zone will act as an immediate resistance area for the index. A sustained move above 53,100 could lead to a further extension of the pullback rally towards the 53,600 level in the near term,” said Sudeep Shah, Head - Technical and Derivatives Research at SBI Securities.

On the downside, the 52,200–52,100 zone is placed as a crucial support region for Bank Nifty, he added.

Indian benchmark indices rebounded sharply to end with solid gains in a volatile session on March 24, tracking geopolitical developments after U.S. President Donald Trump announced a temporary pause on strikes targeting Iran’s power infrastructure. However, Iran denied any such negotiations with the United States.

Supported by positive global cues, domestic markets opened on a firm note and extended gains throughout the session with buying across sectors pushed the Nifty 50 index above 23,000 mark.

At close, the Sensex was up 1,372.06 points or 1.89 percent at 74,068.45, and the Nifty was up 399.75 points or 1.78 percent at 22,912.40.

Broader indices outperformed the main indices with Nifty mid and smallcap indices rising 2.6% each.

The market capitalisation of BSE-listed companies jumped nearly Rs 8 lakh crore to Rs 423.16 lakh crore versus Monday's Rs 415.21 lakh crore.

After hitting a fresh record low in the previous session, the Indian rupee recovered some lost ground, touching an intraday high of 93.63. However, it pared most of its gains to settle marginally higher at 93.87 against the previous close of 93.97.

All the sectoral indices ended in the green with auto, IT, metal, media, bank, consumer durables, PSU Bank, Private bank, infra, consumer durables up 2% each.

The Nifty started higher following the first comments suggesting a possible de-escalation of the Middle East conflict. The index rallied sharply but encountered resistance around 23,000, where call writers had significant positions.

Technically, Nifty closed with an indecisive candle, indicating that the direction of the next move remains uncertain. It appears that much will depend on Wednesday’s opening. A negative opening may create bearish sentiment in the market, while a positive opening could indicate positive sentiment for the short term.

After witnessing a massive fall on Monday, the market rebounded sharply on Tuesday on the back of easing tensions in the middle-east war front and Nifty closed the day higher by 399 points. After opening with a huge upside gap of 366 points (body gap, not a western gap), the market moved up further amidst volatility in the mid to later part of the session. The opening upside gap has been filled partially and Nifty closed near the highs.

A small bull candle was formed on the daily chart with upper and long lower shadow. Technically, this market action indicates a sharp bounce back in the market amidst high volatility. The negative chart pattern like lower tops and bottoms is continued and present up move is expected to be a new lower top of the pattern, which needs to be confirmed at the highs.

A sustainable bounce back of Tuesday could be a cheering factor for bulls to make a comeback, but the market needs to show strength by sustaining above the crucial hurdles like 23500-23600 levels to consider this as a near term bottom reversal pattern. Any failure to sustain the highs at the hurdle could possibly drag Nifty down to 22600-22500 levels again in the near term.

The equity benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty rebounded by nearly 2 percent on Tuesday, on media report from Al Arabiya claiming Mojtaba Khamenei has agreed to negotiate with the US, however, there is no official confirmation from Iran yet.

The domestic markets also tracked gains in global markets after US President Donald Trump announced a temporary halt on strikes targeting Iranian energy infrastructure.

The Sensex settled 1,372.06 points or 1.89 percent higher at 74,068.45, while the broader Nifty was at 22,912.40, up 399.75 points or 1.78 percent.

All 16 major sectoral indices traded in the green. The broader Nifty smallcap100 and Nifty midcap100 rose 0.77 percent and 1.10 percent, respectively.

Among stocks, HDFC Bank gained 1.1 percent after appointing external law firms to review the resignation letter of former part-time chairman Atanu Chakraborty. The stock had declined 11.7 percent over the last three sessions, eroding about Rs 1,35,000 crore in market value following his abrupt exit.

Olectra Greentech and JBM Auto rose 7.5 percent and 8.7 percent, respectively, while Ashok Leyland added 1.3 percent after the government said it would provide 10,000 air-conditioned e-buses to 116 cities by the end of 2027.
Key factors behind market rise
1) Iran agrees to negotiate: Iran’s new Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, has agreed to negotiate with the United States and reach an agreement, suggesting a potential diplomatic opening amid ongoing hostilities, a report by Al Arabiya, citing Israeli media, has claimed. The report comes as US President Donald Trump said there have been talks between Washington and Tehran over the past day that produced what he described as “major points of agreement&quot;.

2) Value buying: Domestic markets tracked gains in Asian peers after Trump postponed the bombing of Iran's power grid, easing concerns over a deeper energy shock. The Nifty50 had declined 2.5 percent on Monday and is down 10.6 percent since the US-Israeli conflict involving Iran escalated on February 28.

The Indian benchmarks have fallen about 9.5 percent this month amid elevated crude prices and concerns over energy supplies, which also triggered foreign outflows.

3) Firm global cues: Asian markets rebounded, with South Korea’s Kospi, Japan’s Nikkei 225, Shanghai’s SSE Composite and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng trading higher. US markets ended in positive territory on Monday. Wall Street futures have also trimmed their losses to trade flat, indicating a firm start.

Technical Outlook
Anand James, Chief Market Strategist at Geojit Investments, said sustained trades above 22,680 would signal strength in Nifty, while dips are likely to remain limited in the near term. He added that a break below 22,470 could open the downside towards the 22,200–22,000 zone, while swings around 22,560 may persist in the interim.
