The Nifty opened weak tracking subdued global cues but recovered during the day to settle 42.65 points, or 0.17 percent, higher at 25,725.40.

The Sensex rose 173.81 points, or 0.21 percent, to close at 83,450.96 after moving between 83,598 and 82,987.43 in intra-day trade.

Sudeep Shah, Head – Technical and Derivatives Research at SBI Securities, said the 25,800–25,850 zone remains the immediate hurdle for the Nifty. A sustained move above 25,850 could push the index towards the 26,000 level, while 25,630–25,600 is expected to act as near-term support.

The Bank Nifty continued to outperform, ending near the 61,200 mark with a gain of 0.37 percent, added Shah.

He said the index formed a bullish candle with a minor lower shadow on the daily chart, indicating buying interest at lower levels. With the index hovering close to its all-time high, the overall structure remains positive as major moving averages are aligned upward and momentum indicators show a bullish undertone.

According to Shah, the immediate support zone for the Bank Nifty is placed at 60,800–60,700. As long as the index holds above 60,700, the setup remains favourable for further upside with possible targets of 61,600 and 62,100 in the short term.

The broader market also remained firm. Both the Nifty Midcap 100 and Nifty Smallcap 100 indices closed in the green, extending gains. The midcap index traded above key moving averages, while the smallcap index stayed above its 20-day EMA, signalling near-term strength.

The index has continued its recovery but faced resistance near the 50DMA on the higher side. As a result, it may remain rangebound or witness a minor pullback, given the rejection at this critical moving average. The RSI has also entered a bearish crossover, indicating weakening momentum.

On the upside, resistance is placed at 25,800, above which the index could witness further strength. However, failure to move past 25,800 may trigger long unwinding, potentially dragging the index back toward the 25,500 level.

Technically, after a gap-down open, the market took support near 25,600/83000 and bounced back sharply. On intraday charts, it is holding an uptrend continuation formation and also formed a bullish candle on daily charts, which is largely positive.

We are of the view that 25,600/83000 and 25,500/82700 remain the crucial support zones for traders. As long as the market is trading above these levels, the bullish momentum is likely to continue.

On the higher side, 25,800/83700 would act as an immediate resistance zone for the bulls. A successful breakout above 25,800/83800 could push the market towards 25,950-26,000/84200-84500. On the flip side, below 25,500/82700, the uptrend would become vulnerable.

The benchmark equity indices Sensex and Nifty settled higher for the second straight session on Tuesday, driven by gains in bank, IT and capital goods shares.

The Sensex climbed 173.81 points, or 0.21 percent, to close at 83,450.96. The index moved between a high of 83,598 and a low of 82,987.43 during the day. The Nifty advanced 42.65 points, or 0.17 percent, to settle at 25,725.40.

Infosys, ITC, HCL Technologies, Asian Paints, Tech Mahindra, Bharat Electronics Ltd, Tata Consultancy Services, IndiGo, Sun Pharmaceuticals, and Larsen &amp;amp; Toubro were the major gainers in the Sensex pack.

On the other hand, Eternal, Tata Steel, ICICI Bank, Bajaj Finserv, Kotak Mahindra Bank, Reliance Industries, UltraTech Cement, Bajaj Finance, Axis Bank, and Mahindra &amp;amp; Mahindra were the laggards.

Broader indices also traded firm, with the BSE Smallcap Select Index rising 0.49 percent, and Midcap Select Index gained 0.26 percent.
Key factors behind market rise
1) Buying in IT shares: Shares of IT companies extended gains for the second straight session after witnessing a sharp decline earlier. Heavyweight Infosys announced a strategic partnership with Anthropic, at a time when concerns around AI-led disruption in the sector had weighed on sentiment.

2) India Vix declines: The India VIX, the volatility gauge, declined over 2 percent to 13.02. A fall in the index indicates easing market volatility and improves investor risk appetite.

3) Rupee rises: The rupee appreciated 1 paisa to 90.73 against the US dollar in early trade, supported by lower global crude oil prices. However, a stronger dollar overseas and foreign institutional investor outflows limited the gains, according to forex traders. At the interbank foreign exchange, the domestic unit opened at 90.72 against the US dollar and slipped to 90.73, up 1 paisa from its previous close.

4) Crude rises: Brent crude, the global oil benchmark, slipped 0.41 percent to USD 68.37 per barrel. Lower crude prices are positive for India, which imports a major portion of its oil requirements.
Technical view
Anand James, Chief Market Strategist at Geojit Investments Limited, said buyers may appear cautious in early trade following Monday’s sharp rise towards the 25,690–25,750 zone.

He said the bullish engulfing candlestick pattern on the charts supports the possibility of further upside, though dips towards the 25,620–25,570 range could attract buying.

On the upside, the 25,750 level may act as a hurdle, while 25,900 appears achievable, he added.
