The equity benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty extended their rally for the third consecutive session on Tuesday, supported by firm trends in Asian markets and sustained foreign institutional investor (FII) inflows.

At around 10:30 am, the Sensex was trading 370.23 points or 0.44 percent higher at 84,435.98, while the broader Nifty rose to 25,975.45, up 108.15 points or 0.42 percent.

All the 16 major sectors rose. The broader Nifty smallcap100 and Nifty midcap100 gained up to half a percentage.

<a href="https://www.moneycontrol.com/india/stockpricequote/ironsteel/tatasteel/TIS">Tata Steel</a>, ETERNAL and Tech Mahindra were the top gainers in the Nifty50 pack, rising up to 4 percent, while <a href="https://www.moneycontrol.com/india/stockpricequote/trading/adanienterprises/AE13">Adani Enterprises</a> and Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone were among the major laggards, declining up to 2 percent. Market breadth was positive as bout 2406 shares advanced, 1146 shares declined and 151 shares unchanged.
<h3>Key factors behind market rise</h3>
1) FII buying: Market sentiment was bolstered primarily by continued foreign fund buying. The foreign institutional investors bought equities worth Rs 2,254.64 crore on Monday. FIIs were also net buyers to the tune of Rs 1,950.77 crore in the previous session on Friday.

2) Strong global cues: Asian markets were trading mostly higher, with Japan’s Nikkei 225, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng and South Korea’s Kospi advancing in early trade. US equities settled higher in overnight deals on Monday.

"Global equities markets rallied on Monday propelled by optimism over Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi's thumping election win and a tech rebound, while the dollar slumped amid reports that China has advised financial institutions to curb exposure to US bonds," Devarsh Vakil, Head of Prime Research, HDFC Securities, said.

He added that investors are now awaiting delayed January employment data, scheduled for release on Wednesday, and CPI inflation figures due on Friday. These data releases are expected to provide guidance on the Federal Reserve’s interest rate policy for the rest of 2026.

3) Crude declines: Lower crude oil prices also aided market sentiment. Brent crude, the global oil benchmark, slipped 0.28 percent to USD 68.85 per barrel. A decline in oil prices helps ease inflationary pressures and supports the outlook for importing economies like India.

Anand James, Chief Market Strategist at Geojit Investments, said Nifty largely held above the 25,830 level after a brief period of uncertainty.

"After a brief period of uncertainty, Nifty largely stayed around 25,830 or above, keeping our 26,020 objective in play. Weak momentum is a concern, which prompts us to wait and watch on approach to 26,020 before expanding the upside objective to 26,600-26,800," he noted.

Indian equity benchmarks Sensex and Nifty are likely to open higher on February 10, tracking gains in GIFT Nifty, which was trading around 25,984.50.

Indian benchmark indices extended gains from the previous session, supported by positive global cues and broad-based buying across sectors, after the announcement of an interim trade framework with the US that includes a reduction in reciprocal tariffs to 18 percent on several Indian goods.

At close, the Sensex was up 485.35 points or 0.58 percent at 84,065.75, and the Nifty was up 173.60 points or 0.68 percent at 25,867.30.

GIFT Nifty was trading higher at around 25,984.50, indicating a positive opening for the day.

Asian equities rose on Tuesday as a recovery in US tech stocks gathered momentum after last week’s selloff tied to concerns over massive spending on artificial intelligence.



US Equities (Rise)

The S&amp;amp;P 500 and the Nasdaq rose solidly after a shaky start on Monday, as technology stocks found their footing following last week's AI-sparked selloff, while investors waited for key economic data that could shed light on the Federal Reserve's interest-rate path.

While the Dow notched its second closing record in a row with a small gain, the S&amp;amp;P 500 ultimately finished short of its closing record.

After surpassing 50,000 points for the first time on Friday, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 20.20 points, or 0.04%, to 50,135.87. The S&amp;amp;P 500 gained 32.52 points, or 0.47%, to 6,964.82, and the Nasdaq Composite gained 207.46 points, or 0.90%, to 23,238.67.

The Nasdaq finished 3% below its latest record closing high, reached in November, while the S&amp;amp;P 500 was just out of reach of its last record close of 6978.60 reached on January 27.



US Bond Yield (Down)

The yield on 10-year Treasuries and 2-year Treasuries were little changed at 4.19% and 3.48%, respectively.

Domestically, growth remains resilient, corporate balance sheets are strong, and earnings are gradually broadening. After the recent correction in parts of the market, valuations in several segments now look attractive from a medium-term perspective.

While geopolitical risks remain a variable, the overall setup appears constructive. For long-term investors, this is shaping up to be a good phase to increase equity exposure selectively rather than remain on the sidelines.
