Stock exchanges will remain closed next week for Shri Mahavir Jayanti and Good Friday, leading to a shortened trading week.

Following these, the next market holiday will be observed on April 14 for Dr Baba Saheb Ambedkar Jayanti. This will be followed by holidays on May 1 for Maharashtra Day and May 28 for Bakri Id.

The Nifty 50 failed to witness follow-up buying interest as bears returned aggressively and snapped the two-day gains on March 27. The index crashed over 2 percent after a gap-down opening as tensions escalated in the Middle East, keeping oil prices well above $100 per barrel. Meanwhile, the rupee fell to an all-time low of 94.84 against the US dollar amid sustained FII selling. The selling was broad-based.

Technically, the lower high–lower low formation remains intact, while the benchmark index continues to trade well below all key moving averages (20-, 50-, 100-, and 200-day EMAs), with the 100-day EMA falling below the 200-day EMA for the first time since March 2025. The RSI dropped to 35.76, while the MACD remains below the zero and signal lines, though the histogram weakness has faded for the third straight session. All these indicators suggest a continuation of the bearish trend, albeit with some signs of momentum stabilisation.

According to experts, Monday’s low around the 22,500–22,450 zone is expected to act as immediate crucial support for the Nifty 50 next week. A decisive fall below this level could open the door for the psychological 22,000 zone. However, the 23,000–23,200 range may act as an immediate resistance zone.

The Nifty 50 opened lower and extended selling pressure as the day progressed. The index hit an intraday low of 22,805 before closing at 22,820, down 487 points (2.09 percent).

A long bearish candle was formed on the daily chart, indicating a sharp reversal in the Nifty after a pullback. This market action signals the formation of a new lower-top reversal pattern at 23,465 on the daily timeframe chart. This is in line with the ongoing bearish pattern of lower tops and bottoms seen over the past month, said Nagaraj Shetti, Senior Technical Research Analyst at HDFC Securities.

For the week, the index declined 1.28 percent and formed a doji-like candlestick pattern for the second consecutive week. The downtrend has continued for the fifth straight week, while the lower high–lower low formation has been observed for six consecutive sessions.

According to him, the underlying trend of the Nifty has turned sharply downward after the recent pullback rally. &quot;One may expect further weakness down to the 22,450 level and lower in the coming week. Positional support is placed at 22,000, while immediate resistance is at 23,200,&quot; he said.

The monthly options data indicates that the immediate range for the Nifty 50 could be 22,500–23,200, while 22,000–23,500 may be the broader range.

The maximum Call open interest was seen at the 23,000 strike, followed by the 23,500 and 23,200 strikes. Maximum Call writing was observed at the 23,000, 23,200, and 23,500 strikes. Meanwhile, the 22,000 strike holds the maximum Put open interest, followed by the 23,000 and 22,500 strikes, with maximum Put writing at the 22,000, 22,200, and 22,850 strikes.

Meanwhile, the India VIX, which measures expected market volatility, spiked 8.8 percent to 26.8 and approached Monday’s high, signalling major discomfort for bulls. The risk for bulls may increase further if it rises sharply from current levels.

Bank Nifty

The banking index, too, was caught in a complete bear trap after rallying in the past couple of sessions and underperformed the benchmark Nifty 50. The index plunged 1,433 points (2.67 percent) to 52,275 on above-average volumes, forming a long red candle on the daily charts and decisively breaking the golden ratio level again (61.8 percent Fibonacci retracement of the rally from the March 2025 low to the February 2026 high), reinforcing the prevailing weakness.

The pattern of lower highs and lower lows continues to hold, signalling sustained selling pressure. A hidden bearish divergence on the RSI further indicates the likelihood of trend continuation. The MACD remained below the reference and zero lines, though the histogram weakness faded further for the third consecutive session. All these factors indicate persistent bearish undertones, despite minor signs of easing momentum.

For the week, the Bank Nifty fell 2.16 percent and continued its downtrend, along with a lower high formation for the fifth consecutive week, indicating rising bearish pressure on the index. If the index breaks the current week's low of 51,300, the selling may extend to 50,700, which is the 78.6 percent Fibonacci retracement level.

&quot;The overall setup suggests adopting a sell-on-rise approach in the near term. Key support is placed around the 51,500–51,300 levels, while resistance is seen in the 53,000–53,200 zone, which is expected to limit any short-term recovery,&quot; said Vatsal Bhuva, Technical Analyst at LKP Securities.

The benchmark equity indices Sensex and Nifty settled sharply lower on Friday, extending their ongoing corrective phase amid continued uncertainty over the US-Iran conflict and its impact on global markets.

Weak sentiment was further weighed down by crude oil prices remaining above the USD 100 per barrel mark, a sharp fall in the rupee and persistent foreign fund outflows.

The Nifty opened on a subdued note and remained under sustained selling pressure throughout the session. Despite brief intraday recovery attempts, the index failed to gain traction and settled near the day’s low at 22,819.60, down 486.85 points or 2.09 percent.

The Sensex dropped 1,690.23 points or 2.25 percent to close at 73,583.22. During the day, it tumbled 1,739.04 points or 2.31 percent to 73,534.41.

Market analysts said the Nifty is hovering near key support levels and may see further downside if these levels are breached.

Ajit Mishra, SVP, Research, Religare Broking, said the index continues to trade near crucial support despite entering oversold territory. Immediate support is seen around 22,500, and a decisive break below this level could drag the index towards 22,000. On the upside, 23,000 may act as an immediate hurdle, followed by a stronger resistance near 23,500.

Analysts at Choice Broking said the index formed a sizeable bearish candle with a lower high and a lower low, indicating resumption of the downtrend after a brief pullback. They expect the index to consolidate in the 22,450–23,850 range in the coming weeks amid volatility driven by rising crude prices and geopolitical tensions. A breach below the previous week’s low of 22,471 may lead to further downside towards 22,100 and 21,800 levels, they added.

Nagaraj Shetti, Senior Technical Research Analyst at HDFC Securities, said the underlying trend has turned sharply negative after the recent pullback rally. He expects further weakness towards 22,450 and lower in the coming week, with positional support placed at 22,000 and immediate resistance at 23,200.

Key factors behind market decline
For the week, both Sensex and Nifty fell about 1.3 percent each, while broader markets saw small-cap and mid-cap indices decline 0.6 percent and 1.4 percent, respectively.

Since February 28, when the US-Israeli conflict involving Iran began, both the Sensex and the Nifty have fallen about 9.5 percent.

Benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty declined for a fifth straight week on Friday, their longest losing streak in about eight months, as fraught Middle East ceasefire negotiations and elevated crude oil prices intensified foreign outflows and battered the rupee.

The Nifty 50 fell 2.09% to 22,819.60 on Friday, while the BSE Sensex slipped 2.25% to 73,583.22.

For the week, both lost about 1.3%, with the broader small-caps and mid-caps losing 0.6% and 1.4%, respectively.

The Nifty and Sensex have declined about 9.5% each since the U.S.-Israeli war on Iran began on February 28, and the volatility index spiked to 27.09, hovering at its highest since June 2024.

Indian corporates are very susceptible to higher energy costs and supply shortages, said Dhananjay Sinha, chief executive and co-head of institutional equities at Systematix Group.

Markets will face &quot;sharper downward earnings revisions than previously anticipated as higher crude would lead to margin contraction to about 9% from 16%,&quot; said Sinha.

Energy and metal stocks fell 1.9% and 2.2% for the week.

HDFC Bank slid 3.1% in its fifth consecutive weekly drop, marking its longest losing run in six years, as the markets regulator began a preliminary review of part-time chairman Atanu Chakraborty's abrupt resignation.

ONGC rose 6.2%, its best week in two months, on continually high oil prices.

Adani Enterprises, Coal India, Bharat Electronics, Trent and Shriram Finance are the top Nifty losers during the week. IDBIBank, Bharat Dynamics, Mazagon Dock and Torrent Power are the top Midcap losers during the trading week.

Financial underperformed with the Bank Nifty index slipping more than 2%.

Nifty IT outperformed in a weak market, rising over 1% this week.

Nifty PSU Bank and Defence are the worst-performing sectoral indices, down nearly 4% each.

The rupee settled at a record low of 94.8125 per dollar, as oil prices staying above $100 dampened economic and earnings outlook for the world's third-largest crude oil importer, sparking record monthly foreign outflows worth Rs 1.1 lakh crore.

&quot;A weakening rupee, elevated crude oil prices, and persistent FII outflows have continued to favour the bears. The index is trading below the 21-hour EMA, indicating sustained short-term bearish momentum. Additionally, the RSI has entered a bearish crossover, reinforcing the negative bias.

The bears returned to Dalal Street on Friday (March 27), dragging the Indian benchmark indices 2 percent lower amid broad-based selling across sectors, continued depreciation of the rupee, and lingering uncertainty over the de-escalation of the US–Iran conflict.

Amid weak global cues, the market opened on a negative note, with the Nifty50 starting lower at 23,173.55. Selling pressure intensified as the session progressed, pulling the index down to an intraday low of 22,804.55 before it closed near the day’s low.

At close, the Sensex was down 1,690.23 points or 2.25 percent at 73,583.22, and the Nifty was down 486.85 points or 2.09 percent at 22,819.60.

Broader markets mirrored the weakness, with the Nifty Midcap index dropping 2.2% and the Smallcap index declining 1.7%.

For the week, both the BSE Sensex and Nifty50 ended 1.2% lower.

The market capitalisation of BSE-listed companies fell Rs 8.97 lakh crore to Rs 422.04 lakh crore against Wednesday's Rs 431.01 lakh crore.

The Indian rupee extended its losses for a second straight session, breaching the 94-per-dollar mark for the first time. It hit a fresh record low of 94.84 during intraday trade before settling at 94.81, down 83 paise from Wednesday’s close of 93.98.

All sectoral indices closed in the red, led by sharp losses in PSU banks and realty, which declined more than 3% each. Auto, consumer durables, capital goods, and private banks fell 2% each.

Among Nifty constituents, top losers included Shriram Finance, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles, InterGlobe Aviation, Reliance Industries, and Bajaj Finance, while ONGC, TCS, Wipro, Bharti Airtel, and Coal India were among the few gainers.

After witnessing a sustainable bounce back in the last couple of sessions, Nifty witnessed a sharp fall on Friday has and closed the day lower by 486 points. After opening on a weak note, the market continued to slide down for better part of the sessions. There was no indication of any meaningful recovery in the middle part and Nifty finally closed near the lows.

A long bear candle was formed on the daily chart which indicates sharp reversal down in the Nifty after a pullback. This market action signals a formation of new lower top reversal pattern at 23465 on the daily timeframe chart. This is in line with the ongoing bearish pattern like lower tops and bottoms of the last one month.

The underlying trend of Nifty has turned down sharply after a recent pullback rally. One may expect further weakness down to 22450 levels and lower in the coming week. Positional support is placed at 22000. Immediate resistance is placed at 23200.

Nifty opened with a gap down and remained under pressure throughout the session, eventually closing at 22,820, down 2.09%.

A combination of macro headwinds weighed heavily on market sentiment, including a pullback in crude oil prices, the rupee hitting a record high, a spike in US and Japanese 10-year bond yields, and a rise in VIX. Ongoing geopolitical tensions in West Asia further added to the cautious undertone.

After failing to surpass the 23,350–23,400 resistance zone on Wednesday, Nifty witnessed renewed selling pressure, resulting in a lower close. Notably, since early February, every pullback has been sold into at higher levels, reinforcing the prevailing bearish trend. On the technical front, RSI has slipped after briefly crossing the 40 mark, indicating that momentum is still on the bearish side. Meanwhile, the MACD continues to trade well below both the zero line and the signal line, further strengthening the bearish bias.

Going ahead, the immediate support for Nifty is placed in the 22650-22600 zone. Any sustainable move below this zone could result in Nifty extending its weakness towards 22400, followed by 22200 in the short term. On the upside, the zone of 23150–23200 zone is likely to act as a strong resistance.
