Bajaj Allianz Life Chief Investment Officer (CIO) Srinivas Rao Ravuri expects a rate cut by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) MPC next week.

FPI selling and heightened primary market activity have added pressure, but strong DII inflows are offsetting this. With sustained selling in recent months, FPI positioning in India now looks light, and any reversal—potentially triggered by a cooling of the AI rally—could support a rebound in flows.

Yes. We are optimistic about a strong earnings recovery in FY27 as the economy reflects the full impact of recent fiscal and monetary measures announced by the government and the RBI respectively. We have limited expertise in these areas and would avoid speculating. That said, elevated tariffs are clearly affecting certain sectors and adding volatility to markets. Any positive outcome on the US–India trade front—whenever it materialises—would only reinforce our constructive outlook on equities.

In a large democracy like India, sweeping, game-changing reforms tend to be incremental rather than abrupt. The government has introduced several structural measures over the past decade that strengthen the long-term growth framework.

The implementation of the four labour codes is another step in this direction, providing corporates with greater flexibility in workforce management while offering employees more standardized and enhanced workplace benefits. While these reforms apply across industries, we believe the impact will be more pronounced for startups and labour-intensive sectors.

Do you think US markets are concerned about the heavy investments flowing into AI and whether they can ultimately be monetised?

US markets saw a strong rally after an initial dip following tariff announcements, driven largely by optimism around AI. More recently, the rally has moderated as questions emerged about the circular nature of certain large AI-related deals, rising leverage, and the broader economic rationale behind some of the investments.

We believe AI will bring about transformational changes in how businesses operate and how consumers live. However, parts of the recent investment surge do exhibit characteristics of an early-stage bubble—something typical in major technological transitions. Ultimately, while the long-term potential remains significant, the success of monetisation will be critical and will only become evident over the next few years.

Indian economy grew at a six-quarter high of 8.2 percent in the July-September quarter of the ongoing financial year 2026, as against the 7.8 percent rise in the previous quarter (Q1 FY26). This was helped by robust manufacturing and a buoyant services sector, especially financial, real estate and professional services.

The GDP data beat a recent Moneycontrol poll of economists, which had pegged Q2 growth at 7.3 percent, and was well above the Reserve Bank of India's 7 percent projection for the quarter. "The upside surprise in the Q2 GDP growth print was driven by services, even as the agriculture and industrial sectors largely reported prints along expected lines," said Aditi Nayar, chief economist, ICRA.

"India's Q2 FY26 GDP growth of 8.2% clearly reaffirms the economy’s strong underlying momentum despite global uncertainties. The sharp pickup in manufacturing at 9.1% and the continued resilience in financial and professional services at 10.2% highlight that India’s growth engines are broad-based and structurally improving. What stands out is that private consumption has strengthened to 7.9%, indicating healthier demand conditions. Overall, this print reinforces confidence that India remains firmly on a high-growth trajectory, supported by robust domestic fundamentals and sustained investment activity," said Mahendra Patil, Founder and Managing Partner, MP Financial Advisory Services LLP.
<h3>How will markets react?</h3>
Indian equity markets ended the session almost flat on November 28, after hitting fresh lifetime highs just a day ago. Sensex closed around 14 points lower (0.02 percent) at 85,706.67, while <a href="https://www.moneycontrol.com/indian-indices/nifty-50-9.html">Nifty 50</a> fell around 13 points (0.05 percent) to end the session at 26,202.95.

Earlier yesterday, Nifty 50 jumped more than 100 points to its new record high level of 26,310, breaking its previous record of 26,277 which it had hit in September last year. <a href="https://www.moneycontrol.com/indian-indices/SENSEX-4.html">Sensex</a>, meanwhile, crossed the 86,000-mark for the first time ever.

Kranthi Bathini, Director of Equity strategy, WealthMills Securities remained positive on the possible market response to the strong GDP numbers. He noted that the data was sharply above the consensus estimate. According to the analyst, Nifty 50 will likely cross the key resistance level of 26,250 on Monday.

"Strong GDP numbers despite sustained FII outflows this year shows the resilience of the Indian economy, which will continue to support the markets," he added.

Anirudh Garg, Partner and Fund Manager, INVasset PMS, said that the immediate market reaction is likely to be constructive, as the data validates earnings resilience, supports valuation premiums, and strengthens the case for continued capital expenditure. "Stronger-than-expected GDP numbers reinforce the view that India's growth cycle is being driven by domestic engines rather than external momentum," he said.
<h3>Will RBI cut rates after strong GDP data?</h3>
However, the analyst advised some caution, stating that the market may not move in a straight line. This comes as the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is set to hold its MPC meeting in December. While most experts anticipate a rate cut, Garg noted that a strong GDP print reduces pressure on monetary policy to accelerate easing. This “could temper aggressive bets in rate-sensitive segments”, he said.

“Overall, the growth data supports the medium-term equity narrative: corporate earnings remain backed by real activity rather than sentiment, and the investment cycle is expanding rather than peaking,” he concluded.

The MPC faces a challenging act at the December rate review, with the mix of a strong growth print and record low inflation, said Radhika Rao, Executive Director and Senior Economist at DBS Bank. “We expect an emphasis on forward looking growth guidance and high real rate buffer due to weak inflation, to justify a move to lower rates further,” she added.

However, it extended its winning run for the third consecutive week and ended at a new weekly closing high. The bulls maintained a strong grip on the market, supported by healthy technical and momentum indicators and a continued large-degree higher-high, higher-low formation.

Even the India VIX, also known as the fear gauge, corrected throughout the week after hitting an almost five-month high in the previous week. It fell 1.42 percent on Friday and declined 14.77 percent for the week—the biggest weekly fall since May this year—to 11.62, offering strong comfort to the bulls.

"That said, chasing the index at elevated levels is not advisable, as the risk-reward setup is currently unfavourable. Waiting for a healthy pullback would be a more prudent approach for initiating fresh positions," said Nilesh Jain, Head – Technical and Derivatives Research (Equity Research) at Centrum Broking.

Accordingly, the index is expected to march toward the 26,500–26,600 zone in the short term, provided it holds the crucial support of 25,900 (20-day EMA). Meanwhile, the 25,050–26,000 range is likely to act as immediate support amid possible consolidation.

The Nifty 50 touched an intraday high of 26,281 in the morning after opening higher, but the gains failed to sustain in the afternoon due to profit-booking, which dragged the index down near 25,200. It finished the session at 26,203, down 13 points, after trading within the previous day's range and forming a small bearish candle with upper and lower shadows on the daily charts, indicating consolidation after a strong rally.

The short- and medium-term moving averages trended upward. Momentum indicators and oscillators continued to signal a buy on both daily and weekly timeframes.

According to Nagaraj Shetti, Senior Technical Research Analyst at HDFC Securities, the underlying uptrend of the Nifty remains intact.

"The present choppy movement could eventually result in another round of sharp breakout soon in the market. The near-term upside target to be watched is around 26,600, and immediate support is placed at 26,050," he said.

For the week, the index rose 0.52 percent and formed a bullish candle with minor upper and long lower shadows on the weekly charts, indicating volatility but a continuation of the upward trend.

Weekly options data continued to signal 26,000 as an immediate crucial support, while resistance remained at 26,500.

The maximum Call open interest was seen at the 26,500 strike, followed by the 26,300 and 26,400 strikes, with maximum Call writing at the 26,400, 26,300, and 26,500 strikes. On the Put side, the 26,000 strike held the maximum open interest, followed by the 26,100 and 26,200 strikes, with maximum Put writing at the 26,200, 26,100, and 26,150 strikes.

Bank Nifty

The banking index extended its uptrend for the fourth consecutive session, closing flat with a positive bias at 59,753, up 15 points. It hit a fresh record high of 59,897.5 before forming a Doji pattern on the daily charts, signaling indecision after a strong rally. For the week, it gained 1.5 percent—its fourth straight weekly rise—and formed a long bullish candle with a higher-high, higher-low structure for the third consecutive week, indicating underlying strength.

Momentum indicators maintained a bullish bias, while the short- and medium-term moving averages continued to incline upward.

"As long as Bank Nifty holds above 59,400, the ongoing rally could extend toward the 60,000–60,200 mark. Therefore, short-term traders are advised to adopt a buy-near-support and sell-near-resistance approach," said Hrishikesh Yedve, AVP – Technical and Derivative Research at Asit C. Mehta Investment Intermediates.

After the formation of long bull candle on Wednesday, Nifty showing a narrow range movement over the last couple of sessions signal possible uptrend continuation pattern.

The underlying uptrend of Nifty remains intact. The present choppy movement could eventually result in another round of sharp breakout soon in the market. The near term upside target to be watched around 26600 and immediate support is placed at 26050.

Sectoral performance was uneven, with auto and pharma posting gains while energy and financials ended in the red. Market breadth remained subdued as both mid-cap and small-cap indices closed largely unchanged.

The strong rebound in global markets, supported by expectations of continued liquidity, is aiding the ongoing momentum in domestic equities. Additionally, improving geopolitical developments are offering further comfort to investors.

We maintain a positive outlook and recommend continuing with a “buy on dips” approach as long as the Nifty holds above the 25,900-support zone, with a potential upside target near 26,500.

With sectoral participation shifting on a rotational basis, traders should stick to steady performers and trail stop losses as trades move in their favors. For fresh entries, it is advisable to remain selective and focus on large-cap and stronger mid-cap names, while staying cautious in pockets that appear overbought or vulnerable.

A small negative candle has been on the daily chart with minor upper and lower shadow. Technically, this market signal continuation of choppy movement in the market after a stellar rally of Wednesday. After the formation of long bull candle on Wednesday, Nifty showing a narrow range movement over the last couple of sessions signal possible uptrend continuation pattern.

The underlying uptrend of Nifty remains intact. The present choppy movement could eventually result in another round of sharp breakout soon in the market. The near term upside target to be watched around 26600 and immediate support is placed at 26050.

Markets traded lackluster on Friday and ended almost unchanged, taking a breather after hitting a fresh record high. On the index front, the Nifty edged slightly higher in early trade, but a mixed trend across heavyweight stocks kept the momentum in check throughout the session, eventually closing flat at the 26,205 level. Sectoral performance was uneven, with auto and pharma posting gains while energy and financials ended in the red. Market breadth remained subdued as both mid-cap and small-cap indices closed largely unchanged.

The strong rebound in global markets, supported by expectations of continued liquidity, is aiding the ongoing momentum in domestic equities. Additionally, improving geopolitical developments are offering further comfort to investors.

We maintain a positive outlook and recommend continuing with a “buy on dips” approach as long as the Nifty holds above the 25,900-support zone, with a potential upside target near 26,500.

With sectoral participation shifting on a rotational basis, traders should stick to steady performers and trail stop losses as trades move in their favors. For fresh entries, it is advisable to remain selective and focus on large-cap and stronger mid-cap names, while staying cautious in pockets that appear overbought or vulnerable.
