The market clocked nearly 1.6 percent rally for the week ended October 10, extending upward journey for second consecutive week, thanks to buying interest in all key sectors. The renewed FIIs buying interest, easing geopolitical tensions with Israel-Hamas implementing ceasefire plan, and signs of progress in a potential India–US trade deal lifted sentiment, while the gold, the safe-haven commodity, continued to gain strength as global uncertainties still persist, hitting a record high of $4,081 before closing the week with 2.34 percent gains.

However, in the coming week starting from October 13, the market is expected to see some volatility, at least in the upcoming couple of sessions due to a fresh US-China trade tariff war and if that escalates significantly then bears may get strong hold over the market. However, if that does not happen, then overall week is expected to be stable despite initial volatility, with focus on further set of corporate earnings, India and China inflation numbers for September, Fed officials’ speeches, FIIs mood, and further update related to US-China trade war and US shutdown, experts said.

The Nifty 50 rallied 391 points (1.57 percent) for the week to 25,285, and the BSE Sensex soared 1,294 points (1.59 percent) to 82,501, while the Nifty Midcap and Smallcap 100 indices gained 2.08 percent and 1.43 percent, respectively.

"Looking ahead, Q2 earnings from sector weights IT, banking &amp; FMCG will weigh on investor sentiments," Vinod Nair, Head of Research at Geojit Investments said.

Along with this, "global geopolitical developments and inflation data from the India and China will remain key triggers influencing central bank policy expectations and overall market sentiment," he said.

However, in the near term, investors will continue to favour consumption-led themes supported by accommodative fiscal and monetary policies, he added.

Here are 10 key factors to watch next week:

US-China Trade Conflict

Globally, the focus will be on a fresh trade war between world's largest economies, as after China imposing new export controls on rare earths minerals, US President Donald Trump on Friday slapped additional 100 percent tariffs on imports from China, effective November 1. The China defended its move on rare earth minerals, saying it is legitimate measure under international law. This raises clouds over the upcoming meeting between Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping, as Trump on Friday threatened in a social media post to cancel his upcoming meeting with Xi, scheduled on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum during the last week of October in Gyeongju, South Korea, according to CNBC reports.

"While most of China’s new restrictions are not scheduled to take effect until December 1, markets remain hopeful for last-minute negotiations. Nonetheless, the renewed trade tensions are likely to fuel volatility," Kaynat Chainwala of Kotak Securities said.

US Shutdown

All eyes will also be on the US government shutdown that is now stretching into another week, with potential federal layoffs looming as Congress remains deadlocked. With no Senate vote expected until Tuesday, concerns continue to grow amid already fragile consumer sentiment, experts said.

If the US shutdown gets extended further then the key data releases such as retail sales, PPI, jobless claims, and housing Starts scheduled next week could get delayed.

Global Economic Data and IMF-World Bank Meeting

Further, globally, all eyes will also be on the Chinese inflation data, and the IMF-World Bank annual meetings for insight into broader macroeconomic trends and risks. The 2025 Annual Meetings of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund are scheduled between October 13 and October 18.

Additionally, the speeches from Fed Chair Jerome Powell, and other FOMC officials including Miran scheduled next week will also be watched.

CPI Inflation

Back home, the market participants will focus on CPI inflation for September releasing on October 13, which is one of the important data points for the RBI MPC to take a decision over the interest rates. Most economists expect CPI inflation to fall below 2 percent in September, against 2.07 percent in August.

Further, WPI inflation will be released on October 14, followed by unemployment rate &amp; balance of trade data for September, and minutes of recent RBI monetary policy meeting scheduled on October 15.

Bank loan and deposit growth numbers for fortnight ended October 3, and foreign exchange reserves for week ended October 10 will be announced on October 17.

FIIs have turned net buyers in Indian equities after several weeks, purchasing Rs 2,975.53 crore worth of shares during the week, while DIIs have made Rs 8,391.11 crore worth of buying in the same period.

Meanwhile, the rupee closed at 88.73 against the US dollar, weakening by 0.02 percent during the week, sustaining tad below the all-time low of 88.87 for another week. The US Dollar index remained below 100 zone since June, climbing 1.17 percent during the week to 98.85.

Canara HSBC Life Insurance Company, Canara Robeco Asset Management Company, and Rubicon Research will close their initial public offerings (IPOs) next week, while in the SME segment, the public issues by SK Minerals &amp; Additives, Sihora Industries, and Shlokka Dyes will close on October 14.

On the listing front, Tata Capital, LG Electronics India, and Canara HSBC Life Insurance Company, Canara Robeco Asset Management Company, and Rubicon Research will make their market debut in the coming week. Technical View

Technically, the 24,900 (the midline of Bollinger bands on the weekly charts, and 50-day EMA) is expected to act as a crucial support for the Nifty 50 next week, as closing decisively below can activate bears. Overall, the trend is still up given the healthy technical and momentum indicators. On the higher side, 25,400-25,450 is the zone to watch out for, as surpassing the same decisively can drive strong rally going ahead despite intermittent consolidation and correction.

F&amp;O Cues

The weekly options data suggested that the Nifty 50 is expected to be in the 25,000-25,650 range in the short term. The maximum Call open interest was seen at the 26,000 strike followed by the 25,500 and 25,400 strikes, with the maximum Call writing at the 25,450, 25,650 and 25,350 strikes.

On the Put side, the 25,200 strike holds the maximum Put open interest followed by the 25,000 and 25,100 strikes, with the maximum Put writing at the 25,300, 25,250 and 25,200 strikes.

Meanwhile, the fear index, India VIX remained in the lower zone and sustained below all key moving averages, (though it has risen 0.42 percent during the week to 10.10), indicating a continued comfort zone for the market.

India has already begun this transition by introducing policy incentives and increasing investments in mining, R&amp;D, and domestic manufacturing capabilities. At the index level, where the focus tends to be on the more popular names within the mid and small-cap segments, these segments appear less attractive compared to large caps.

The price-to-earnings (P/E) ratios for mid and small-cap indices remain above 30, while the Nifty 50 trades at a more reasonable P/E of 22. However, beyond the popular names, the Scientific Investing framework can help curate a 20–30 stock portfolio in the mid and small-cap space. These companies may offer higher expected growth rates, outperforming their broader segments, while still being significantly mispriced with earnings multiples in the 10–15 range at the portfolio level.

When do you see a win-win situation emerging for the tech sector, which is likely to face macroeconomic challenges in the near term?

In the near term, the tech sector is grappling with macro headwinds stemming from tariff wars, high interest rates, and a global economic slowdown.

Uncertainties are further compounded by the transformative impact of AI-led technologies. That said, we remain positive on the sector’s long-term structural importance, driven by increasing AI adoption, cloud computing, and ongoing digital transformation. It may take a few more quarters for clarity to emerge on growth. With further price corrections, the sector could present attractive long-term investment opportunities.

Why are silver ETFs trading at a significant premium, and what is your advice to investors?

Investors should exercise caution and avoid chasing Silver ETFs solely based on their recent performance. While long-term demand for silver remains strong — particularly due to its critical role in green technologies like solar energy and EVs — the recent rally in precious metals has largely been triggered by central banks diversifying away from the US dollar.

It is essential for investors to stick to their multi-asset allocation plans and rebalance portfolios to maintain long-term strategic allocation, rather than reacting to recent performance trends.

Recent AMFI data shows a surge in gold and silver ETF inflows, reaching all-time highs with nearly 4x growth in September compared to the previous month. On the other hand, Domestic Institutional Investors (DII) remained net buyers in the 25th week, as they purchased equities worth Rs 8,391.11 crore.

Among sectors, Nifty Capital Market and IT indices remained top performers with a 5 percent gain, followed by Nifty Healthcare index (up 3 percent), Nifty Realty index (up 2.3 percent), Nifty Private Bank, Nifty Consumer Durables, and Nifty Pharma up 2 percent each. However, the Nifty Media index shed nearly 3 percent.

"In the last week, the benchmark indices continued their positive momentum. The Nifty ended 1.57 percent higher, while the Sensex was up by 1290 points. Among sectors, the Capital Market and IT indices outperformed, with the Capital Market gaining 5.20 percent and the IT index rallying 4.80 percent, whereas the Media index lost the most, shedding 2.75 percent," said Amol Athawale, VP Technical Research, Kotak Securities.

"During the week, the market successfully cleared the 25,000/81700 mark, and post-breakout, it intensified its positive momentum. Technically, it has formed a long bullish candle on the weekly charts and is also trading above the 20-day SMA (Simple Moving Average), which is largely positive. We are of the view that the 20-day SMA and the 25,000/ 81700 level will act as crucial support zones for short-term traders."

"As long as the market is trading above 25,000/81700, the uptrend is likely to continue. On the higher side, the market could rally to 25,450–25,500/82900-83100. Further upside may also continue, potentially lifting the index up to 25,700/83700. Conversely, if the market falls below 25,000/81700, the uptrend would become vulnerable. Below this level, traders may prefer to exit their long positions," Athawale said.

"For Bank Nifty, the short-term trend is positive. For trend-following traders, 56,200 and 55,800 would act as key support zones. On the higher side, 57,000 and 57,500 could serve as crucial resistance levels for the bulls," he added.

Where is Nifty50 headed?

Technically, the Nifty is once again approaching its trendline resistance around 25,450, with immediate support now placed near 25,000. A decisive breakout above this hurdle could further reinforce the recovery and open the path toward the June highs near 25,669.

We expect rotational buying across key sectors to continue providing trading opportunities; however, traders should emphasize prudent risk management given the likely volatility during the ongoing earnings season.

The Nifty remained strong on Friday as it broke out of the recent consolidation range. The trend continues to stay positive as it is sustaining above the critical moving average.

The setup looks favorable for a further rise in the short term. Any dip would provide a good opportunity to enter long trades.

On the higher end, the Nifty may move towards 25,500–25,550, while on the lower end, support is placed at 25,150. A fall below 25,150 could weaken the trend slightly.

Nifty on the weekly chart formed a long bull candle that has almost engulfed the upper area of the long bear candle of September end. We also observe bullish higher highs and lows formations as per the weekly timeframe chart.

The underlying trend of the market remains positive. Nifty is expected to advance towards the important resistance of around 25400-25450 levels (previous swing high of 18th Sept and the down-sloping trend line) by next week. Immediate support is placed at 25150.

Sudeep Shah, Head - Technical Research and Derivatives at SBI Securities

The index is now just 0.64% below its previous swing high of 25449, made on 18th September, highlighting the potential for further upside. On the weekly chart, Nifty closed above the 20-week EMA and above the previous week’s high of 24905, reflecting underlying strength.

Technical indicators are also supportive. RSI, after turning flat, has resumed its upward trajectory and closed above 60, indicating bullish momentum with room for further gains. MACD remains above the signal line and zero line with green histogram bars, suggesting sustained buying pressure and continuation of the uptrend in the near term.

Looking at key levels, the 25,400–25,450 zone will act as an immediate resistance for the Index. If the index manages to give a follow-through move above the level of 25,450, the pullback can continue further till the 25,600 level. While on the downside, the zone of 25,200-25,150 will act as a crucial support for the Index.

Q2 earnings may be soft, but the second half of FY26 may see recovery, says Chakri Lokapriya - CIO Equities at LGT Wealth India. He expects a 5-8 percent YoY profit growth in Q2FY26, setting up for acceleration later in the year.
