Indian benchmark indices staged a strong rebound on April 15, with the Nifty comfortably closing above the 24,200 mark. The rally was driven by easing geopolitical concerns following optimism around renewed US-Iran peace talks, which led to a sharp decline in crude oil prices.

Supported by positive global cues, the market opened on a firm note with the Nifty crossing 24,100 and extended its gains throughout the session. Broad-based buying across sectors, along with strength in broader indices, pushed the index to an intraday high of 24,280.90.

At close, the Sensex was up 1,263.67 points or 1.64 percent at 78,111.24, and the Nifty was up 388.65 points or 1.63 percent at 24,231.30.

Interglobe Aviation, Max Healthcare, Power Grid Corp, Wipro, Eternal were among biggest gainers on the Nifty, while losers were Dr Reddy's Laboratories, Bharti Airtel, ICICI Bank.

All the sectoral indices ended in the green with Capital Goods, Oil &amp;amp; Gas, Power, Infra, Media, Realty, Consumer Durables, IT rise 2% each.

Broader indices outperformed the benchmark indices, with the Nifty Midcap and Smallcap indices up more than 2 percent each.

In stock-specific action, Paras Defence shares rose 7% on signing agreement with Bandak Aviation Inc. DBA Northstar, USA, Shares of Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC of India) rose more than 4% after the company received approval to issue bonus shares. Meanwhile, ICICI Prudential Asset Management Company down nearly 4% post Q4 results, and Swaraj Engines advanced 4% following better earnings. Shares of Asian Paints and InterGlobe Aviation climbed up to 4%, supported by a fall in Brent crude prices below USD 96.

Additionally, ICICI Prudential Life Insurance Company jumped 3% after reporting a 62% surge in Q4 profit, while RailTel Corporation of India surged 18% after securing two orders from Rail Vikas Nigam Limited, while HG Infra Engineering rallied 13% after bagging an order worth ₹519.33 crore. ArisInfra Solutions also rose 3.5% after signing an MoU with Capacité Infraprojects.

On the downside, Ujjivan Small Finance Bank fell 4% after the Reserve Bank of India returned its application for a universal bank licence. Meanwhile, Responsive Industries gained 4% following the appointment of a new CFO, and Tanfac Industries shares added 6% on MoU to supply 5,000 MT of fluorinated products.

Outlook for April 16

On Wednesday, the benchmark index Nifty 50 opened with a gap-up and traded within a narrow range of nearly 135 points throughout the session, which marks the lowest trading intraday range since 11 February. The index ended on a strong note, gaining 1.63%, and formed a small-bodied bullish candle on the daily chart. The price action suggests that both buyers and sellers are holding positions following the recent rally.

The ongoing recovery structure remains firm, with Nifty rebounding over 2100 points from its recent lows despite intermittent volatility, signalling a potential shift in short-term trend. Notably, the index has closed above its 50-day EMA for the first time since February 23, 2026, indicating sustained buying interest from lower levels.

From a Momentum standpoint, indicators remain supportive. The RSI is rising from lower levels, while the MACD histogram is trending higher, reflecting strengthening momentum and supporting a buy-on-dips approach in the ongoing recovery phase.

Going ahead, the 24070–24050 zone will act as an immediate support area for the index. On the upside, the 24350–24400 zone will act as an immediate resistance, and a sustained move above this band could lead to further upside toward the 24550 level.

Markets witnessed a strong rebound on Wednesday, extending gains after the recent consolidation phase, supported by favourable global cues. The Nifty opened gap-up, remained range-bound for most of the session, and eventually settled at 24,231.30, up 1.63%. The rally was broad-based, with all major sectors trading in the green—led by IT, realty, and energy. Broader markets outperformed once again, with midcap and smallcap indices advancing over 2%, reflecting strong risk-on sentiment and improved market breadth.

The upmove was primarily driven by improving global sentiment amid renewed hopes of US–Iran negotiations, which led to a sharp cooling in crude oil prices below the $100 mark. This eased concerns around inflation and supported emerging market equities like India. Stability in the rupee and a decline in volatility, as indicated by India VIX, further contributed to the positive undertone, while optimism around the ongoing earnings season kept sentiment buoyant.

From a technical perspective, the Nifty has once again reclaimed the 24,000 mark, indicating strengthening momentum in the ongoing recovery phase. The index is now expected to inch toward the 24,350–24,600 zone, with a key hurdle placed around 24,800, coinciding with the 200 DEMA. On the downside, support has shifted higher to the 23,900–23,600 range. We reiterate a positive yet cautious stance, focusing on stock selection and prudent overnight risk management. While broader indices are showing notable outperformance in the recent rally, participants are advised to remain selective and stick to quality names.

Over decades of Sensex and Nifty ups and downs, one lesson stands out -- staying invested in equities, rather than timing the market, has consistently delivered better returns.

Today, a crore of rupees is no longer what it used to be. With inflation quietly eroding purchasing power and traditional fixed deposits yielding 6–7 percent per annum, barely above inflation, the question of where to park Rs 1 crore has never been more consequential for Indian investors.

“If one looks at 47 years of BSE Sensex data, spanning boom years, global crises, and India-specific shocks to derive a data-backed allocation framework for today's investor, the answer is nuanced. But the core message from the data is unambiguous: equities, held patiently over the long term, remain the single-most powerful wealth-creation engine available to Indian investors,” said Ajay Kumar Yadav, CFPCM, Group CEO &amp;amp; CIO, Wise Finserv (Private Wealth).

What the Sensex tells us: A 47-year report card

Launched in April 1979 at a base of 100 points, the BSE Sensex closed December 31, 2025, at 85,220.60,  a journey that spanned liberalisation, dot-com bubbles, the Global Financial Crisis, demonetisation, a pandemic, and geopolitical upheavals.

Through all of it, the compounding engine kept running.

Key statistical findings from the historical data:

	The Sensex has compounded around 15.5 percent annually over the long term
	Roughly 3 out of every 4 years have been positive
	Most importantly, over any 15-year period, returns have never been negative



&quot;The data reinforces a crucial lesson. Investors who panic-sold in 2008, when the Sensex fell 52.5 percent, missed the extraordinary 79.7 percent recovery of 2009. Similarly, those who stayed invested through the COVID crash of March 2020 were rewarded with a near-complete recovery within the same calendar year,&quot; said Yadav.

What should be your allocation?

Market conditions remain uncertain due to the volatility in crude oil prices and geopolitical tensions. Positive news may push equities up by 5–7 percent in the short term, but future gains will depend on earnings growth and fundamentals.

Mohit Bagdi of MIRA Money said, &quot;Asset allocation should match an investor’s age and risk profile. Even if investing fully in equities, a hybrid approach combining debt, equity and commodities can offer a better risk–reward balance.&quot;

Bagdi recommeds a systematic transfer plan (STP) over 3-4 months when investing a large sum like Rs 1 crore. Gradually shifting funds from liquid assets to equities, either daily or weekly, can help reduce timing risk amid uncertain markets.

Trying to time the market the biggest mistake

Around 47 years of Sensex data shows one clear lesson: time in the market beats timing the market. The sharp fall of 52.5 percent in 2008 was followed by a strong 79.7 percent rebound in 2009. Investors who exited in panic often locked in losses and missed the recovery.

The data also challenges the idea of waiting for a correction before investing Rs 1 crore. Yadav says staggering a lump sum over 12 months through STPs, with rebalancing during dips, has delivered better outcomes than waiting or reacting emotionally.

Akshat Garg of Choice Wealth suggests allocating about 50 percent to domestic equities, with lumpsum exposure to largecaps and gradual investment in midcaps and smallcaps. He also recommends 10–15 percent in global equities, 5–10 percent in gold or silver ETFs, 10-12 percent in real estate and 10–15 percent in high-quality debt for stability and income, such as NCDs or debt mutual funds, to provide stability, liquidity, and predictable income within the portfolio.

How Rs 1 crore can grow over 10 years across risk levels

If past trends are any guide, an investor who puts in Rs 1 crore today and splits it as recommended could see very different outcomes over 10 years, depending on the level of risk taken.

&quot;In a conservative approach, with a higher share in fixed deposits, the investment may grow around 7.5 percent annually, taking the total corpus to about Rs 2.06 crore. A balanced or recommended mix, delivering roughly 12 percent returns a year, could grow the investment to nearly Rs 3.11 crore over the same period. Meanwhile, a more aggressive, equity-heavy strategy with an assumed 15 percent annual return has the potential to build a corpus of about Rs 4.05 crore in 10 years,&quot; explained Yadav.

This shows the difference between Rs 2.06 crore and Rs 4.05 crore on the same Rs 1 crore investment is not luck, it is asset allocation, patience, and the relentless arithmetic of compounding.

In early trade, the Sensex had surged 1,422.85 points to 78,270.42, while the Nifty climbed 438.25 points to 24,280.90. However, both indices gave up part of the gains by noon, with the Sensex falling over 300 points from the day’s high and the Nifty slipping below the 24,200 level.

2) Persistent FII selling: Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) remained net sellers, impacting sentiment. According to exchange data, FIIs offloaded equities worth Rs 1,983.18 crore on Monday after a brief pause. They have remained net sellers in March and so far in April.

3) Technical hurdle: On the technical front, the Nifty briefly crossed the 24,250 mark during intraday trade but failed to hold on to the gains, triggering profit booking at higher levels.

Benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty posted a massive upmove from April 13 low amid hopes of renewed US-Iran talks.

Sensex rose 2,000 points from Monday low while Nifty posted a near 3% rally.

At 10:19 am on April 15, the Sensex was up 1,379.42 points or 1.8% at 78,226.99, and the Nifty was up 421.15 points or 1.77% at 24,263.80. About 3,233 shares advanced, 445 shares declined, and 144 shares were unchanged.

This begs the question -- what lies ahead for Indian markets?

&quot;The smart recovery through Monday was consistent with the bullish expectations with which we had started the week. However, despite the strong close, oscillators appear less positioned to achieve the 24,400-24,900 objectives right away. This calls for volatility, prompting us to keep the downside marker far and wide at 23,760. That said, we will retain upside hopes while above 24,080,&quot; said Anand James, Chief Market Strategist, Geojit Investments Limited.

&quot;We believe 24,100/78,100 would act as a key resistance zone for traders. As long as the market trades below this level, weak sentiment is likely to continue. On the downside, it could retest the 23,600-23,500/76,600-76,300 levels. On the other hand, above 24,100/78,100, sentiment could change. Above this level, it could move towards 24,300/78,700. If Nifty closes above this level, further upside momentum could continue, taking the index to 24,500/79,300,&quot; said Shrikant Chouhan, Head Equity Research, Kotak Securities.

US President Trump signalled a second round of US-Iran talks within two days, potentially to be hosted by Pakistan, to ease tensions in the Middle East. Brent crude plunged to $95 as supply disruption fears faded, while spot gold climbed above $4,800/oz on a softer dollar and risk-on sentiment post-cooler US inflation data, said Devarsh Vakil, Head of Prime Research at HDFC Securities about the triggers for market rally on April 15.

The short-term trend of the Nifty remains strong, and the swing low at 23,555 is likely to act as a strong support going forward, while the 24,300-24,500 band poses near-term resistance, he said.

Given the improving undertone supported by recent recovery patterns, yet amid ongoing global uncertainties and elevated volatility, investors are advised to remain disciplined and selective on April 15, 2026. Buying on dips in fundamentally strong stocks may remain a prudent strategy, as demand is visible at lower levels. However, fresh aggressive long positions should be considered only after a decisive breakout above key resistance zones, which would indicate strengthening sentiment and the potential for a more sustained bullish trend, said Hitesh Tailor, Technical Research Analyst, Choice Broking.

On the daily chart, a strong bullish recovery candle was formed post the gap-down opening on April 13, suggesting demand absorption at lower levels and a potential shift in near-term sentiment, subject to follow-through buying. Technically, immediate support is seen at 23,900–24,000, while resistance is placed at 24,250–24,300, he said.
