The Indian equity markets continued the upward journey for the second consecutive session on October 10 with Nifty surpassing 25,300, intraday, for the first time since September 19.

After a flat start, the market remained in buying mood throughout the session helping Nifty to reclaim 25,300-mark, led by buying across the sectors barring metals.

At close, the Sensex was up 328.72 points or 0.40 percent at 82,500.82, and the Nifty was up 103.55 points or 0.41 percent at 25,285.35.

Broader indices performed inline with the main indices with BSE Midcap index rising 0.4%, and smallcap index gained 0.6%.

For the week, BSE Sensex and Nifty added 1.5 percent each.

On the sectoral front, metal index shed 0.8 percent, while auto, bank, consumer durables, PSU bank, realty, pharma added 0.5-1 percent.

Cipla, SBI, Dr Reddy's Labs, Maruti Suzuki, Adani Ports were among major gainers on the Nifty, while losers included Tata Steel, TCS, JSW Steel, Tech Mahindra, HDFC Life.

In stock-specific action, M &amp; B Engineering share price added 3.5% on bagging order of Rs 98 crore, Kolte-Patil shares rose 1% on acquiring 7.5-acre land parcel in Bhugaon, Pune, NTPC Green Energy share price rose 1.5% on MoU with the Gujarat Government, Lloyds Engineering Works shares gained 1.5% on MoU with FlyFocus, KP Energy shares surged 10% on signing MoU with Government of Gujarat.

The Nifty remained strong on Friday as it broke out of the recent consolidation range. The trend continues to stay positive as it is sustaining above critical moving average.

The setup looks favorable for a further rise in the short term. Any dip would provide a good opportunity to enter long trades.

On the higher end, the Nifty may move towards 25,500–25,550, while on the lower end, support is placed at 25,150. A fall below 25,150 could weaken the trend slightly.

The market continued with follow-through upmoves on Friday and the Nifty closed the day higher by 103 points amidst range movement. After opening with a positive note, the market continued to surge higher in the early part of the session. It later shifted into a range bound action for rest of the session and closed near the highs.

A long bull candle was formed on the daily chart, which indicates an uptrend continuation pattern with bullish formation like higher tops and bottoms. Nifty on the weekly chart formed a long bull candle that has almost engulfed the upper area of long bear candle of September end. We also observe bullish higher highs and lows formations as per weekly timeframe chart.

The underlying trend of the market remains positive. Nifty is expected to advance towards the important resistance of around 25400-25450 levels (previous swing high of 18th Sept and the down sloping trend line) by next week. Immediate support is placed at 25150.

A smart rally in banking counters drove the benchmark equity indices Nifty 50 and Sensex higher by half a percent in the afternoon session on October 10, with the indices set to settle the week with gains of 1.5 percent each.

At close, the Sensex was up 299.14 points or 0.36 percent at 82,471.24, and the Nifty was up 97.60 points or 0.39 percent at 25,279.40. About 2202 shares advanced, 1587 shares declined, and 127 shares unchanged.

On the sectoral front, banking stocks drove the gains. SBI, HDFC Bank, Axis Bank and ICICI Bank were the top contributors to rise in the benchmark indices, while the Bank Nifty gained rose around 0.8 percent. The Nifty Private Bank index was nearly one percent higher, while Nifty PSU Bank index jumped almost two percent.

Not just banking, but the FMCG and auto gauges posted smart gains of half a percent each, while realty and pharma indices jumped over one percent. On the losing end, the metal index capped the wins in trade, with the IT index marginally in the red.

The AMFI September data highlights a steady yet insightful shift in investor preferences. The mutual fund industry added 40 lakh folios in the month, with total AUM inching up from Rs 75.18 lakh crore to Rs 75.38 lakh crore, reflecting continued investor engagement. A standout trend is the growing appetite for precious metals. "Global macro factors underpin this trend. Fresh investments by central banks in gold and silver, coupled with record flows in bullion ETFs, further reinforce this demand," said Kartik Jain, MD &amp; CEO, Shriram AMC.

On the global front, ongoing constructive dialogue between India and the USA helped bolster market sentiment, adding optimism and confidence among market participants. The derivatives segment displayed a clear bias towards advances, with the advance-decline ratio favoring positive movers, said Ashika Institutional Equities.

Notably, significant open interest build-up was seen in names like Divis Laboratories, Tata Elxsi, PG Electroplast, Hindustan Zinc, and SBI Life, indicating fresh participation and trader positioning in these counters.

The top contributors to the gains on the headline indices were SBI, HDFC Bank, Axis Bank and ICICI Bank shares.

All sectors barring the metals pack traded in the green. The realty, healthcare, PSU Bank, pharma and consumer durables indices posted gains of over 1.5 percent each. The FMCG, auto, and banking bank were higher between 0.4 to 0.8 percent each.

The broader markets also posted strong gains, outperforming the benchmarks. The Nifty Smallcap 100 gained 0.8 percent, while its midcap peer rose 0.6 percent in trade.

The market's mood remains cautiously optimistic, as per experts, which is supported by renewed global cues and healthy domestic momentum, although volatility and external headwinds may continue to cap aggressive moves. However, positive developments across the globe and the shift in FII strategy (FIIs were buyers in the cash market in the last three trading days) bode well for the market.

"Even though valuations continue to be relatively high compared to most other markets, short-covering can take the market higher. This is a highly probable event since the short position in the market continues to be high," said VK Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist, Geojit Investment.

"The area between 24,900 and 24,950 has evolved into a critical “buy-on-dips” pocket.
