Indian equity markets extended their winning streak for a third straight session on February 10, with Nifty inched closer to 26,000 intraday supported by broad-based buying across sectors and positive cues from global markets.

At close, the Sensex was up 208.17 points or 0.25 percent at 84,273.92, and the Nifty was up 67.85 points or 0.26 percent at 25,935.15.

Broader markets outperformed the benchmarks, with the Nifty Midcap index rising 0.5 percent and the Smallcap index gaining 0.4 percent.

The top gainers on the Nifty included Eternal, Tata Steel, Bajaj Auto, ONGC and M&amp;M, while the laggards were Shriram Finance, HCL Tech, Dr Reddy’s Labs, Bajaj Finance and Bharti Airtel.

Barring pharma and PSU Bank, all other sectoral indices ended in the green, with the media index rising 2 percent and the auto index gaining 1 percent.

The equity benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty pared early gains on Tuesday amid profit booking at higher levels and resistance around the 26,000-mark on the Nifty.

The Sensex climbed 417.2 points, or 0.49 percent, to hit an intraday high of 84,482.95 in early trade. However, selling pressure emerged in the second half of the session, pulling the index down by over 300 points from the day’s peak. At around 2:15 pm, the Sensex was trading at 84,175.87, up 110.12 points or 0.13 percent.

The broader Nifty, which moved close to the 26,000 level to touch an intraday high of 25,989.45, also trimmed gains. The index was trading at 25,895.65, up 28.35 points or 0.11 percent.

1) Profit booking after three-day rally: The investors booked profits in select FMCG, pharma and PSU bank stocks after the benchmarks extended their gains for the third straight session. Early gains were supported by firm trends in Asian markets and continued foreign institutional investor (FII) inflows.

2) Rupee weakens: The rupee depreciated 11 paise to 90.77 against the US dollar on Tuesday, reflecting cautious sentiment in the currency market following the India-US interim trade framework. The domestic unit opened at 90.63 at the interbank foreign exchange market and slipped to an intraday low of 90.77. On Monday, the rupee ended marginally lower at 90.66 against the US dollar.

3) Technical resistance near 26,000: Aakash Shah, Technical Research Analyst at Choice Equity Broking Private Limited, said the Nifty has strengthened after reclaiming key moving averages and sustaining above the 25,700–25,800 zone. "The immediate upside resistance is placed near 26,000, followed by 26,100. A decisive breakout above 26,000 could trigger further short-covering and extend the ongoing recovery. On the downside, 25,700 remains an important support, followed by 25,500. The overall structure remains positive," Shah said.

"Global equities markets rallied on Monday propelled by optimism over Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi's thumping election win and a tech rebound, while the dollar slumped amid reports that China has advised financial institutions to curb exposure to US bonds," Devarsh Vakil, Head of Prime Research, HDFC Securities, said.

He added that investors are now awaiting delayed January employment data, scheduled for release on Wednesday, and CPI inflation figures due on Friday. These data releases are expected to provide guidance on the Federal Reserve’s interest rate policy for the rest of 2026.

"After a brief period of uncertainty, Nifty largely stayed around 25,830 or above, keeping our 26,020 objective in play. Weak momentum is a concern, which prompts us to wait and watch on approach to 26,020 before expanding the upside objective to 26,600-26,800," he noted.

Indian benchmark indices extended gains from the previous session, supported by positive global cues and broad-based buying across sectors, after the announcement of an interim trade framework with the US that includes a reduction in reciprocal tariffs to 18 percent on several Indian goods.

At close, the Sensex was up 485.35 points or 0.58 percent at 84,065.75, and the Nifty was up 173.60 points or 0.68 percent at 25,867.30.

GIFT Nifty was trading higher at around 25,984.50, indicating a positive opening for the day.

Asian Equities (Up)

Asian equities rose on Tuesday as a recovery in US tech stocks gathered momentum after last week’s selloff tied to concerns over massive spending on artificial intelligence.



US Equities (Rise)

The S&amp;amp;P 500 and the Nasdaq rose solidly after a shaky start on Monday, as technology stocks found their footing following last week's AI-sparked selloff, while investors waited for key economic data that could shed light on the Federal Reserve's interest-rate path.

While the Dow notched its second closing record in a row with a small gain, the S&amp;amp;P 500 ultimately finished short of its closing record.

After surpassing 50,000 points for the first time on Friday, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 20.20 points, or 0.04%, to 50,135.87. The S&amp;amp;P 500 gained 32.52 points, or 0.47%, to 6,964.82, and the Nasdaq Composite gained 207.46 points, or 0.90%, to 23,238.67.

The Nasdaq finished 3% below its latest record closing high, reached in November, while the S&amp;amp;P 500 was just out of reach of its last record close of 6978.60 reached on January 27.



US Bond Yield (Down)

The yield on 10-year Treasuries and 2-year Treasuries were little changed at 4.19% and 3.48%, respectively.
