Private lender ICICI Bank on April 18 reported 8.5% increase in standalone net profit at Rs 13,702 crore for the quarter ended March 31, 2026 compared Rs 12,629.58 crore in the previous year.

The profit also surged 21.06% sequentially from Q3 FY26 due to a combination of steady operating income growth, dramatically lower provisions, and one of the cleanest asset quality prints the bank has produced in its history.

The lender reported a net interest income (NII) print of Rs 22,979 crore, up from Rs 21,193 crore a year earlier which translates to a growth of Rs 1,786 crore, or 8.43%.

The most notable element of ICICI Bank’s quarterly performance, however, seems to lie in its provisions.

These fell sharply to just Rs 96.16 crore from Rs 890.70 crore a year earlier -- a decline of 89.20% -- and from Rs 2,554.28 crore in Q3 FY26, marking a steep 96.24% sequential drop.

This dramatic decline in provisions directly powered profitability.

Pre-tax profit (PBT) surged 22.31% sequentially to Rs 18,102.95 crore from an implied Rs 14,802.60 crore in Q3, while profit after tax (PAT) rose 21.06% sequentially.

Asset quality, too, for the lender remained quite strong this quarter. Gross NPA improved to 1.40% from 1.67% year-on-year translating to a 27 basis point improvement, and from 1.53% in Q3 FY26, a sequential improvement of 13 basis points.

Net NPA improved to 0.33% from 0.39% a year earlier and from 0.37% in Q3, marking both annual and sequential improvements.

Provision to persist till repayment

A key disclosure in ICICI Bank’s FY26 filing relates to an additional standard asset provision of Rs 1,283 crore, directed by the RBI following its supervisory review.

This provision pertains to a portfolio of agricultural priority sector loans that were found to be not fully compliant with regulatory classification norms.

As highlighted in the earnings copy, there is no change in asset classification, borrower repayment behaviour, or loan terms, underscoring that this is not indicative of any underlying stress in the loan book.

Instead, the provision is purely a regulatory adjustment, and will continue to remain on the balance sheet until the loans are either repaid or brought in line with priority sector norms, effectively functioning as a continuing overlay rather than a one-off impact.

On a consolidated basis, including subsidiaries across insurance, asset management, securities, and home finance, ICICI Bank reported PAT of Rs 14,755.06 crore, up 9.28% year-on-year from Rs 13,502.22 crore and 17.68% sequentially.

The consolidated PAT exceeds standalone PAT by roughly Rs 1,053 crore, due to the contribution from group entities such as ICICI Prudential Life Insurance, ICICI Lombard General Insurance, and ICICI Prudential AMC.

The lender declared dividend of Rs 12 per share.

On April 17, ICICI Bank shares on BSE closed 0.5% higher at Rs 1,352.8 apiece.

Private lender HDFC Bank on April 18 reported 9% rise in standalone net profit at Rs 19,221 crore for the quarter ended March 31 ,2026, as compared to Rs 17,616 crore in the year-ago period.

The bank declared a final dividend of Rs 13 per share for FY26 and said the record date for payment of the dividend would be June 19, 2026. In addition, the board of directors approved a special interim dividend of Rs 2.5 per share.

&quot;The Bank paid a special interim dividend of Rs 2.5 per equity share of Re 1 each (adjusted for bonus) on August 11, 2025. The Board of Directors have now recommended a final dividend of Rs 13 per equity share of ₹ 1 for the year ended March 31, 2026,&quot; the bank said.

The Bank's net revenue grew by 5% to Rs 46,280 crore for the quarter ended March 31, 2026 from Rs 44,090 crore for the quarter ended March 31, 2025. Provisions and contingencies for the quarter ended March 31, 2026 were Rs 2,610 crore.

Net interest income for the quarter ended March 31 grew by 3.2% to Rs 33,080 crore from Rs 32,070 crore for the quarter ended March 31, 2025. Net interest margin (NIM) was at 3.38% on total assets, and 3.53% based on interest-earning assets, the bank said in a stock exchange filing.

The lender's asset quality improved in Q4FY26.

&quot;Gross non-performing assets were at 1.15% of gross advances as on March 31, 2026, as against 1.24% as on December 31, 2025 (0.97% excluding NPAs in the agricultural segment), and 1.33% as on March 31, 2025 (1.13% excluding NPAs in the agricultural segment). Net non-performing assets were at 0.38% of net advances as on March 31, 2026,&quot; the bank said.

Provisions and contingencies for the quarter ended March 31, 2026 were Rs 2,610 crore. The total credit cost ratio was at 0.35% for the quarter ended March 31, 2026.

&quot;The Bank's total Capital Adequacy Ratio (CAR) as per Basel III guidelines was at 19.7% as on March 31, 2026 (19.6% as on March 31, 2025) as against a regulatory requirement of 11.9%. Tier 1 CAR was at 17.7% and Common Equity Tier 1 Capital ratio was at 17.3% as of March 31, 2026,&quot; said the lender.

&quot;The Bank's average deposits were Rs 28.5 lakh crore for the March 2026 quarter, a growth of 12.8% over Rs 25.2 lakh crore for the March 2025 quarter, and 3.6% over Rs 27.5 lakh crore for the December 2025 quarter. The Bank's average CASA deposits were Rs 9.18 lakh crore for the March 2026 quarter, a growth of 10.8% over Rs 8.28 lakh crore for the March 2025 quarter, and 2.2% over Rs 8.98 lakh crore for the December 2025 quarter,&quot; the private lender added.

Ahead of the result, HDFC Bank shares on BSE closed 0.6% higher at Rs 800 apiece. This is the first result post the resignation of former part-time chairperson Atanu Chakraborty, who resigned on March 17.

As of March 31, 2026, the bank said its distribution network was at 9,689 branches and 21,172 ATMs across 4,175 cities / towns as against 9,455 branches and 21,139 ATMs across 4,150 cities / towns as of March 31, 2025.

Private lender YES Bank on April 18 reported a robust rise in its standalone net profit for the quarter ended March 31, 2026, supported by improving loan growth and stable asset quality, while also reporting a return on assets (ROA) of 1 percent, making it the first time to reach that level since 2020.

It reported a standalone net profit of Rs 1,068 crore for the fourth quarter, as compared to Rs 739 crore in the year-ago period. This is the first quarterly result under the leadership of the new chief executive, Vinay M Tonse.

Ahead of the Q4 result, the lender's shares closed 2.3% higher at Rs 20.4 apiece.

In a post-results call to the media, Tonse said that the bank aims to target a margin of 3.25% and 3.5% over the next two to three years, while looking to build a bank with sustainable return ratios. The bank's net interest margin (NIM) for the quarter came in at 2.7%, as compared to 2.5% in the previous corresponding quarter.

The bank's total income rose marginally to Rs 9,381 crore in Q4FY26 as compared to Rs 9,356 crore in the year-ago period. The lender's asset quality improved marginally. In the March quarter, the bank said it made a one-time provision of Rs 341 crore.

&quot;During Q4FY26, in alignment with some of the evolving conservative provisioning practices, the Bank has proactively strengthened standard asset provisioning coverage by making a one-time provision of Rs 341 crore. This does not reflect any deterioration in asset quality, impairment, or adverse credit development within the portfolio,&quot; the bank said in a stock exchange filing.

Vinay M. Tonse, Managing Director &amp;amp; CEO, YES BANK said, “YES BANK concluded FY26 on a strong footing, delivering a Q4 RoA of 1.0% in line with our guidance, supported by a 20 bps improvement in NIMs, improvement in Cost to Income ratio and the lowest GNPA and NNPA levels since FY20. Business momentum continued to strengthen, with broad-based growth across advances and deposits, underpinned by a robust CASA-led deposit engine that contributed to lower Cost of Deposits.

The private lender's loans grew 10.7% year-on-year during the quarter, accelerating from about 5.2% growth in the previous quarter, helped by a pickup in corporate lending, while deposits rose 12.1%.

Net interest income, or the difference between interest earned on advances and paid on deposits, increased marginally to Rs 7,650 crore from Rs 7.,616 crore a year ago.

The lender, which grappled with stress in retail segments like microfinance, has started to see improvement in asset quality, with gross bad loans as a percentage of total loans improving to 1.3% at March-end from 1.5% at the end of December.

Provisions for potential bad loans fell 41% to Rs 187 crore.
