Nifty 200

After a day of consolidation and profit booking, the Nifty 50 bulls were back in action, helping the index test the psychological 26,000 mark intraday and close with a seven-tenth of a percent gain on October 27, ahead of the monthly derivative contracts expiry due on October 28, thanks to easing global headwinds.

The index recouped all its previous day’s losses and stayed well above all key moving averages, which continued to trend upward. Meanwhile, the RSI climbed back above the 70 zone to 71.49, and the MACD sustained its position in the bullish zone, with the histogram remaining above the zero line.

According to experts, if the Nifty 50 manages to close and sustain above the 26,000 mark, a rally toward the previous week’s high of 26,104 and the record high of 26,277 cannot be ruled out in the short term. However, the 25,800–25,700 range is expected to act as a support zone.

The index did not break its previous day’s low. In fact, it opened above 25,800 and sustained that level throughout the session, hitting an intraday high of 26,006 before closing the day at 25,966, up 171 points (0.66 percent).

The index formed a long bullish candle with a minor upper shadow on the daily timeframe, indicating a positive trend despite minor profit booking at higher levels.

“Sentiment continues to remain strong as the index sustains above the breakout point. The current setup looks favourable for a further rally in the index, with dips likely to be bought into,”
said Rupak De, Senior Technical Analyst at LKP Securities.

According to him, on the lower end, support is placed at 25,700, below which weakness might emerge. On the higher end, resistance is seen at 26,000; a decisive move or close above this level could trigger a rally towards 26,500 in the short term, he added.

The monthly options data indicated that the Nifty 50 is expected to face resistance at 26,500, with support at 25,900 in the near term.

The maximum Call open interest (OI) was seen at the 26,500 strike, followed by the 26,100 and 26,000 strikes, with the maximum Call writing at the 26,050, 26,550, and 26,350 strikes. On the other hand, the 25,900 strike held the maximum Put open interest, followed by the 25,500 and 26,000 strikes, with the maximum Put writing at the 25,900, 26,000, and 25,950 strikes.

Bank Nifty

The Bank Nifty also traded higher after a day of correction, rising 415 points (0.72 percent) to end at a record closing high of 58,114, forming a bullish candle with minor upper and lower shadows on the daily charts. The banking index traded within the previous day’s range; hence, surpassing the previous day’s high (58,233) could clear the road for a move toward 58,600.

Trading near all-time high levels, the index continues to exhibit strong bullish undertones, with all major moving averages and momentum indicators aligned in favour of the bulls.

“Going ahead, the zone of 58,500–58,600 is likely to act as a crucial resistance area for the index. A decisive breakout and sustained move above 58,600 could trigger a sharp upside rally towards 59,100, followed by 59,500 in the near term,” said Sudeep Shah, Head – Technical Research and Derivatives at SBI Securities.

On the flip side, the zone of 57,700–57,600 is expected to offer strong support, and any dip towards this area may attract buying interest, he added.

Meanwhile, the India VIX, which measures expected market volatility, spiked up to 12.72 intraday but cooled down as the day progressed, closing 2.31 percent higher at 11.86, thereby supporting the bulls.

In stock-specific action, Kotak Mahindra Bank fell 1.5 percent after Q2 profit fall, Coforge shares added 4 percent on profit growth, SBI Life's shares gained 3 percent, Zen Technologies shares shed 4 percent on weak Q2 earnings, while GPT Infraprojects added 6 percent on bagging order worth Rs 195 crore.

Sigachi Industries shares slipped nearly 3 percent after profit drop, while Vodafone Idea shares ended 4 percent higher after SC allowed Centre to reconsider the AGR issue. RIL shares rose 2 percent as Facebook picked up stake in the AI venture, while MCX shares rose more than 3 percent on launching options contract on bullion index MCX BULLDEX.

Today, the benchmark indices bounced back sharply, with the Nifty ends 171 points higher while the Sensex was up by 567 points. Among sectors, PSU Banks index outperformed, rallied 2.76 percent, whereas despite strong market sentiment, intraday profit booking was seen in Défense and Media stocks.

Technically, the week opening was positive; after a gap-up open, the market maintained its positive momentum throughout the day. A bullish candle on daily charts and a reversal formation on intraday charts indicate a further uptrend from the current levels.

For day traders, 25,900/84500 would act as an immediate support zone. As long as the market trades above this level, the bullish sentiment is likely to continue. On the higher side, it could retest the levels of 26,100-26,150/85000-85300. On the flip side, below 24,900/84500, we could see a quick intraday correction down to 25,800-25,750/84200-84000.

After breaching past the 26,000-mark intraday, the Nifty 50 index failed to sustain its momentum, settling above 24,900, while the Sensex closed 600 points higher on October 27. The rally was fueled by gains in Metal, Realty, Oil &amp; Gas, and PSU Bank stocks.

At close, the Sensex was up 566.96 points or 0.67 percent at 84,778.84, and the Nifty was up 170.9 points or 0.66 percent at 25,966.05.

Easing trade tensions between U.S. and China, coupled with rate cut expectations from the U.S. Federal Reserve after a soft inflation print, led to bullish momentum. For India, the fundamentals are also turning positive with brisk festival season sales and reports of a smart pick up in capital spending by the private sector, noted experts.

Most sectoral indices traded higher in today’s session, with strong buying seen in state-owned banks, realty, auto and oil and gas stocks. Nifty PSU Bank led the gains with a rise of over 1.5 percent, while Nifty Realty and Nifty Auto also advanced more than 1 percent each. Metal stocks saw healthy momentum as well.

On the other hand, Nifty Media edged slightly lower and pharma names also remained under mild pressure.

"A sustained close above 25,950 could trigger a sharp rally toward 26,200–26,400, while dips toward 25,600 are likely to attract fresh buying interest. Structurally, the earlier swing high of 25,660 now serves as firm support, keeping the broader setup bullish," said Ponmudi R, CEO, Enrich Money.

However, some analysts expect the index to consolidate between the 25,500-26,000 range going ahead.  In the derivatives segment, the options open interest (OI) setup further reinforces the near-term range for the index.

"The 26,000 strike has emerged as the highest Call OI, indicating a strong resistance zone where call writers are actively defending their positions. On the downside, the 25,500 strike holds the highest Put OI, suggesting strong support at that level as put writers continue to add positions, reflecting confidence in the market’s ability to hold above this zone," said Dhupesh Dhameja, Derivatives Research Analyst, SAMCO Securities.

The concentration of open interest at these strikes suggests that the index is likely to trade within a narrow range of 25,500–26,000 in the immediate term.
