Males, especially those between forty to sixty years of age, are more susceptible to developing ureteric stones

Severe pain that waxes and wanes in the upper flank region is a common finding, along with radiating pain to the lower abdomen

Some individuals may also experience blood in the urine, cloudy urine or increased frequency of micturition throughout the day

A urinary tract infection can also be present along with ureteric stones, and can present with fever as well

Drinking enough water, about two to three litres daily, is recommended to people who have developed ureteric stones

Tea, especially green tea, can aid in protecting against kidney stones. Green tea contains compounds like catechins, which prevent calcium from crystallising

Coffee has caffeine in it, which acts as a diuretic (any substance that increases the production of urine) and can be consumed to help with this condition

A plain X-ray of the abdomen can help in identifying the exact location of the stones, as 90 percent of the stones are radio-opaque
