Nalin Haley, the son of former US presidential candidate Nikki Haley, has launched a fierce attack on Republican leader Vivek Ramaswamy over his proposed changes to Ohio’s education system, escalating an already heated political debate around school reform.
In a post on X, Nalin criticised Ramaswamy’s plan to extend school hours and introduce year-round schooling, accusing him of promoting what he called “third-world parenting”. He went a step further by calling Ramaswamy a “creep” and warning that he “should not be near any child”.
“This creep should not be near any child, and we absolutely can’t have his third world parenting style imposed on American kids,” Nalin wrote, reacting to Ramaswamy’s vision for restructuring public education in Ohio.
What Ramaswamy is proposing
Ramaswamy, who is running for governor of Ohio in 2026, recently outlined sweeping reforms aimed at what he believes is a failing education system. He has argued that the current model does not meet the needs of modern students or working families.
His plan includes keeping schools open throughout the year and lengthening the school day so students return home at 4pm instead of 3pm. He says this would reduce childcare pressure on parents and better prepare children for academic success.
Beyond longer hours, Ramaswamy wants to raise academic standards across the state. His proposals include restoring Ohio’s third-grade reading guarantee, expanding phonics-based learning, linking teacher pay to performance, and broadening school-choice options. He has also pledged to remove what he describes as “ideological content” from classrooms.
Ramaswamy has cited government data to argue that American students are falling behind in reading and mathematics and says his reforms are designed to repair what he calls a “broken system."
Past remarks fuel fresh backlash
Nalin Haley also pointed to a controversial comment made by Ramaswamy in 2022. At the time, Ramaswamy reportedly suggested that Republicans adopt rhyme-based slogans such as “wait until 8”, which implied that sex education should begin only after children turn eight.
This remark has resurfaced amid current criticism, with opponents using it to question his approach to children’s education and development.
