A mild earthquake registering 4.2 on the Richter Scale shook China’s Xinjiang region on Thursday afternoon, the National Center for Seismology (NCS) reported.
The tremor occurred at 3:19 PM IST, with its epicenter at latitude 37.26° North and longitude 75.15° East, at a depth of 10 kilometres.
Confirming the quake on X (formerly Twitter), the NCS posted:

No injuries or property damage have been reported, and authorities continue to monitor the situation for any developments.
Xinjiang, which lies in a seismically active zone due to tectonic movements, has experienced similar tremors previously. Residents are advised to remain vigilant and follow safety protocols in case of aftershocks.
