A 4.2 magnitude earthquake struck Xinjiang at 3:19 PM IST, causing no damage; authorities continue monitoring for aftershocks.

Mild 4.2 Magnitude Earthquake Shakes Xinjiang

A mild earthquake registering 4.2 on the Richter Scale shook China’s Xinjiang region on Thursday afternoon, the National Center for Seismology (NCS) reported.

The tremor occurred at 3:19 PM IST, with its epicenter at latitude 37.26° North and longitude 75.15° East, at a depth of 10 kilometres.

Confirming the quake on X (formerly Twitter), the NCS posted:
"EQ of M: 4.2, On: 25/07/2024 15:19:32 IST, Lat: 37.26 N, Long: 75.15 E, Depth: 10 Km, Location: Xinjiang."

No injuries or property damage have been reported, and authorities continue to monitor the situation for any developments.

Xinjiang, which lies in a seismically active zone due to tectonic movements, has experienced similar tremors previously. Residents are advised to remain vigilant and follow safety protocols in case of aftershocks.
