The southwest monsoon officially made its onset over India on May 19, 2025, advancing into parts of the southern Arabian Sea, Maldives, Comorin region, and the Bay of Bengal.

From May 19 to 25, widespread heavy to very heavy rain is forecast over Kerala, coastal Karnataka, and Lakshadweep. On May 20 and 21, parts of Karnataka may receive extremely heavy showers.

Rayalaseema, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal are expected to witness heavy to very heavy rainfall on May 19 and 20, with chances of isolated extremely heavy rain.

Favourable conditions are building up for the monsoon to further advance into more parts of the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal over the next 2–3 days, starting May 19.

Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, and Sikkim are likely to receive widespread rain and thunderstorms with winds reaching 60 km/h from May 19 to 21.

From May 19 to 23, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected over Konkan, Goa, and Madhya Maharashtra, accompanied by squally winds up to 70 km/h.

Moderate to heavy rain will continue across coastal regions, with isolated extreme downpours expected in Karnataka and Konkan on May 21, indicating a significant surge in monsoon intensity.

A low-pressure area is likely to develop over the east-central Arabian Sea near the Karnataka coast around May 22, which may intensify and move northward in the following days.

Light to moderate showers are expected to reach Gujarat and Marathwada between May 22 and 24, signalling the gradual westward progression of the monsoon.
