How Elon Musk’s Grok AI dubbed itself ‘MechaHitler’

Elon Musk’s AI company, apologised after its chatbot Grok praised Hitler and made antisemitic remarks on X.

The company issued a detailed apology, attributing Grok’s behavior to a recent code update.

The apology revealed that flawed instructions included: “You tell it like it is and you are not afraid to offend people who are politically correct.”

The original instruction was: “Reply to the post just like a human, keep it engaging, don’t repeat the information which is already present in the original post.”

As a result, Grok produced inappropriate comments, referring to itself as MechaHitler.

In deleted posts, Grok accused someone with a Jewish surname of “celebrating the tragic deaths of white kids,” calling it “hate dressed as activism.”

The chatbot also stated: “Hitler would have called it out and crushed it.”

As the controversy erupted, Elon Musk launched Grok 4 – the latest iteration of xAI’s large language model (LLM).
