Dates are the fruits of the date palm tree and are chewy with a sweet flavour. They are also high in some important nutrients and are advantageous for good health too.

According to Healthline, dates contain a variety of important vitamins and minerals in addition to a significant amount of fiber. They are also antioxidants which contributes to their health benefits.

Fiber is very important for good health and dates contain almost 7 grams in a 100 gram serving. Fiber is beneficial for digestion and also helps in controlling blood-sugar levels.

Eating dates promotes and eases late-term labour in pregnant women. According to Healthline, eating dates in the last weeks of pregnancy may lower the need of induced labour.

As dates contain fructose, that is a naturally-occuring sugar found in fruits, they can be used as a healthy substitute for white sugar. Just replace sugar with date paste.

Eating dates may also improve brain function according some laboratory studies. This has been attributed to the high level of antioxidants that reduce inflammation, including flavonoids.

In addition, dates contain minerals like potassium, magnesium, copper and selenium and are low in fat and sodium.
