Recently, a study conducted by Tulane University, US, suggested that climbing stairs can be good for the heart and lower the risk of diseases.
Climbing 50 stairs or more than 5 flights of stairs may reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases by almost 20 per cent.
Walking on stairs is more beneficial than walking on a flat surface because it requires the use of more muscles, balance, and gross motor skills, Dr Nicolas Berger from England’s Teesside University said.
Climbing stairs also burns more calories than brisk walking or even slow jogging. Even climbing down stairs helps in burning those calories.
People can also improve their lung function because climbing stairs also increases heart rate and oxygen uptake, that causes positive changes in the body.
