Based on a survey of thousands of young residents across 30 major cities, the Thai capital stood out for its unique mix of happiness, affordability, and social connection, securing the top spot ahead of Melbourne and Cape Town.
What makes Bangkok so appealing?
For one, it offers a rare combination of energy and affordability. Unlike many global hubs where rent and daily expenses can be overwhelming, Bangkok allows young people to enjoy a lively lifestyle without burning through their budgets. From street food stalls and night markets to affordable co-working hubs, the city makes it easier to live well at a lower cost.
Beyond money, Bangkok shines in the way it brings people together. The city has been recognised as one of the easiest places to make friends, thanks to its open street culture, thriving café scene, and creative spaces that encourage collaboration. For Gen Z, who place high value on community and shared experiences, this sense of belonging is a major draw.
Happiness also plays a key role in Bangkok’s appeal. Many young residents report feeling content and fulfilled here, with the city’s mix of tradition, modernity, and freedom of expression contributing to a positive outlook on life. While Bangkok claimed the top spot, other cities also made strong showings.
