Ubisoft’s long-awaited Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake is finally moving toward release, with new reports indicating the game is now expected to launch in January 2026. A planned reveal next month
According to Insider Gaming, Ubisoft is preparing to officially showcase the remake at The Game Awards in December. If this happens, it will mark the game’s first substantial appearance since its initial CGI teaser back in 2020. Since then, updates have been sparse, with the studio only offering brief reassurances that development was ongoing.
The December reveal is expected to offer the first proper look at gameplay, the visual direction, and the improvements Ubisoft Montreal has been working on since taking over the project.

A troubled development history
The remake was originally in development at Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Mumbai. However, early reactions to the initial gameplay reveal were overwhelmingly negative, with criticism directed at dated visuals and combat design. This feedback prompted Ubisoft to hand the project to Ubisoft Montreal — the team behind the modern Prince of Persia series — effectively restarting development.
The studio has reportedly rebuilt the game using the Jade engine, aiming to maintain the heart of the 2003 classic while updating graphics, movement, and combat to modern standards. The mission, according to insiders, is to retain what made the original iconic while refreshing the experience for today’s players.

Fans can expect enhanced character animations, smoother controls, refined combat, and updated visuals, all while preserving the original’s puzzle-focused traversal and time-rewinding mechanics. The 2003 game is widely regarded as one of the most influential action-adventure titles of its generation, setting expectations high for this return.
