OpenAI announced on February 21 that it is rolling out Operator, an artificial intelligence (AI) agent that can perform tasks on behalf of users, to ChatGPT Pro subscribers in several countries including India, Australia, Brazil, Singapore, the United Kingdom, Canada, and South Korea.
This rollout comes as the company looks to expand the availability of one of its first AI agents across the world.
OpenAI stated that the AI agent will be available in most places where the ChatGPT chatbot is available. The firm however noted that it is still working on making Operator available in the European Union, Switzerland, Norway, Liechtenstein, and Iceland.
OpenAI had first released Operator in the United States in January 2025. The AI agent, currently in research preview, can use its own browser to perform repetitive tasks for consumers. This includes filling out forms or expense reports, buying groceries, making restaurant reservations, booking a taxi ride, or making e-commerce purchases among others.
In the United States, OpenAI has partnered with companies like DoorDash, Instacart, Uber to help Operator perform real world tasks for consumers.

The feature is currently available only to subscribers of ChatGPT Pro, which costs $200 per month. At launch, OpenAI had stated that the company intends to expand the product to its Plus, Team, and Enterprise subscribers at a later date.
The AI agent is currently available only through the dedicated Operator website, however the company has stated plans of integrating these capabilities into ChatGPT in the future.
Operator is powered by an AI model called the Computer-Using Agent (CUA) that combines GPT-4o's vision capabilities with advanced reasoning through reinforcement learning.
This model allows it to understand and interact with the buttons, menus, and text fields on your screen, just like a human. It uses screenshots to figure out what’s on a webpage and performs actions like clicking, typing, or scrolling with a virtual mouse and keyboard.
Operator can also fix its own mistakes by using its reasoning skills. For tasks involving using passwords or payments, it asks the user to perform them.
India is the second-largest market for the ChatGPT maker, with users tripling over the past year, chief executive Sam Altman said during his visit to the country earlier this month.
