While Oppo is getting up to launch its next-generation of foldable phone, another brand-owned by China’s BBK Electronics has different plans. OnePlus has revealed that it will not launch a foldable phone in 2025. OnePlus Open was launched in 2023 and it was expected its successor may arrive this year.
However, in a post on the OnePlus Community, Vale G, Product Manager of OnePlus Open, explained why there won’t be a OnePlus foldable phone this year. “We’ve carefully considered the timing and our next steps in foldable devices, and we have made the decision not to release a foldable this year,” said the OnePlus executive.
OnePlus said that while this may come as a surprise, it believe this is the right approach. A key reason is also Oppo’s next steps in the foldable phone market. Oppo is set to launch the Find N5, its latest foldable phone later this month.
Vale said that the decision to pause on foldable for this generation does not signify a departure from the category. “OPPO’s Find N5 demonstrates remarkable advancements in foldable technology, including the use of cutting-edge new materials and more sophisticated engineering. We remain committed to incorporating these breakthroughs into our future products,” said the OnePlus executive.
“This is not a step back, it’s a recalibration. Our commitment to innovation is stronger than ever, and we’re excited to bring you fresh, unique experiences that truly Never Settle,” added Vale.
