The most important aspect is to find the right spot for Moon photography. So, head to an open area with the least possible distraction and obstructions. You can head to an open field or the roof of your house.

You’ll be shooting in dark conditions and to keep the shots stable, use a tripod. This will help you stabilise the shots and get a clear and detailed Moon shot.

If there has to be one thing that you shouldn’t use is flash. The moon is 384,400 kilometers from the earth and flash is useless here. In fact it will illuminate the dust and other particles and ruin the shot.

The biggest trick to getting a detailed moon shot is focus. Tap and hold to lock the focus on the moon to help the phone focus on the subject in the dark conditions.

Enable HDR on your phone. This enhances the overall colour and quality of the photos. Doing this also helps the phone in low-light conditions.

To avoid introducing any unnecessary vibrations and blur to the image, switch to remote shutter or timer function – 10 sec delay is ideal for moon shots.

Getting closer to the moon will help you get a better and more detailed shot. For this, use the built-in telephoto lens of the phone or buy a third-party accessory. The idea is to zoom optically not digitally.

Irrespective of the phone you own, switch to the maximum supported resolution for capturing moon photos. More pixels get you a bigger canvas and more details. Editing them will be easier.

Considering the moon is a little too bright for our smartphones to handle. Manually reducing the exposure will incorporate more details to make the textures visible.

Edit the photos using any photo editor. Reduce the exposure, and highlights and increase the shadow a little bit. You can also increase the sharpness level a bit.
