In a bid to become a global gaming powerhouse by 2033, Dubai is luring foreign talent from the world of gaming with a gaming visa, a move that could lead to some talent drain in India.

The emirate city in May this year launched a gaming visa in order to bring skilled gamers, developers, content creators and other professionals to strengthen its local gaming industry. Anyone applying for Dubai's gaming visa needs to have a track record of working in the industry, with a minimum age at the time of application of 25 years.

For Dubai's gaming visa strategy, India will be crucial because the country has emerged as the global gaming hub, surpassing the combined mobile gaming download totals of the US and Brazil, said Parth Chadha, co-founder of gaming community start-up, STAN.

Another set of statistics that makes India attractive is its gaming talent pool of more than 18,000 game developers and over 600 million gamers nationwide. Moreover, esports players and gaming content creators exceed 2 million in the country, said Rohit Agarwal, founder  of marketing agency Alpha Zegus, which specialises in gaming.
