Canon has unveiled the EOS R6 Mark III, its latest full-frame mirrorless camera aimed at photographers and videographers seeking a versatile hybrid option. The new model succeeds the EOS R6 Mark II and introduces key upgrades, including a higher-resolution 32.5-megapixel sensor and support for 7K video recording.
Features
The Canon EOS R6 Mark III is built around a new 32.5MP full-frame sensor paired with improved autofocus capabilities. The upgraded Dual Pixel CMOS AF system allows users to register a person’s face, ensuring reliable subject tracking during both still and video shooting. The camera supports burst shooting speeds of up to 12fps using the mechanical shutter and up to 40fps electronically, maintaining consistency with the previous model while offering longer bursts thanks to faster data handling.
In terms of video, the EOS R6 Mark III can capture footage in up to 7K/60p RAW and 4K/120p resolution, offering flexibility for creators who require high-quality video output. The camera also introduces Canon Log 2 and custom picture profiles for better post-production control, alongside a tally lamp for clear recording indication. Canon has replaced the Micro HDMI port with a full-sized HDMI Type-A port for more robust connectivity.
Storage and design updates
A notable change in the R6 Mark III is its new card slot configuration. Canon has shifted from dual SD slots to a combination of one CFexpress Type B slot and one SD slot. This setup enhances data transfer speeds but may require professionals to manage two card formats.
