In the lead-up to the IPL 2025 mega auction, the BCCI introduced new regulations concerning overseas players to safeguard franchises and uphold the league’s integrity. Under these rules, all foreign players are required to formally register for the mega auction.

Anyone who fails to do so will not only miss that auction but will also be ineligible for the following year’s mini auction. Additionally, if a registered foreign player pulls out before the season begins—except in cases of medical issues or injury—they will face a two-season ban from both the auction pool and the tournament.

Explosive English opener Jason Roy also exited the 2024 IPL citing personal reasons. His absence from the 2025 mega auction automatically removed him from contention for the 2026 mini auction as well.

Harry Brook had withdrawn from the IPL in 2024 following the passing of his grandmother. In 2025, he again pulled out after DC bought him for Rs 6.25 crore to focus on national duties. Since this marks his second straight withdrawal, the newly established rules impose a ban on his participation in the 2026 auction.

Ben Stokes chose not to enter his name into the 2025 mega auction, citing workload management and long-term fitness as priorities for extending his international career. Stokes had already opted out of the 2024 season, and by skipping registration this time, he is now automatically barred from the 2026 mini auction.
