Poland's Iga Swiatek extended her French Open reign on Saturday as she thrashed Jasmine Paolini 6-2, 6-1 in the final to win her third successive Roland Garros title.
Iga Swiatek claimed her fourth Roland-Garros singles title and her third in three years with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Italy’s Jasmine Paolini in just 68 minutes. It is the Polish world No.1’s fifth Grand Slam trophy and she maintains her 100 per cent record in major finals having now won the first five of her career at the age of 23.
Swiatek extends her Roland-Garros win streak to 21 matches. Her last defeat in Paris came in the quarter-finals in 2021 when she lost to Maria Sakkari.
The first three games of the match suggested the contest would be much closer than it was after Paolini broke for a surprise 2-1 lead.
That seemed to shock the top seed into action however and she raced through five games in a row to claim the first set after 34 minutes.
That domination continued in the second as Swiatek outplayed the Italian 28-year-old on her way to her 35th match win on the Paris clay.
Swiatek, 23, has now won all five Grand Slam finals she has contested. Her other victory came at the 2022 US Open.
