Suryakumar Yadav arrives at BCCI office for Asia Cup squad selection amid reports of delay in press conference

The press conference by BCCI to announce the squad for the Asia Cup on Tuesday has been delayed. As per latest development, the shift of plan is due to weather disruption in Mumbai. The city is gripped in incessant rain, leading to the fresh development. The BCCI had earlier notified that a press conference will be held at 1:30 PM IST after the meeting of the national selection committee in the headquarters in Mumbai.

Despite the rain T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav has already arrived at the venue. "Arey bhai...bahut tej baarish hain," he can be heard saying in a video while making his way inside the building.

Suryakumar cleared his fitness test at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru days ahead of the Ajit Agarkar-led selection panel's meeting. The swashbuckling batter, who last featured in the IPL and was adjudged Player-of-the-Series, had undergone surgery for a sports hernia in the lower-right abdomen in Munich, Germany, in June.

Meanwhile, it'll be interesting to see how the BCCI decide the squad. Will the management stick with the core that has been playing the format since the World Cup last year or include some new faces. Most have anticipated the squad of Asia Cup, which will be played in a T20 format, to be in the lines of T20 World Cup scheduled to be held early next year.

Shubman Gill is one of the names that has been most debated and reports suggest he could come in as No. 3 with Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma being the designated openers. If this is the case then we may not see Yashasvi Jaiswal feature in the squad. In the bowling front, Jasprit Bumrah is likely to make a comeback. His addition will come as a major boost despite most of the talks being around his workload, particularly after the India-England series.
