Star Indian batsmen Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli struck hundreds on their comeback to action in the Vijay Hazare Trophy on Wednesday. Mumbai defeated Sikkim by eight wickets in their Elite Group C match in Jaipur riding on a brilliant 94-ball 155 from Rohit, who made his return to the tournament after a seven-year hiatus. In Delhi's Elite Group D match against Andhra Pradesh, Kohli — who previously played in the Vijay Hazare Trophy in 2010–11 — reached triple digits in 83 balls.
Rohit was named "Player of the Match" for his knock that saw Mumbai chase down a modest 237-run target in 30.3 overs. In contrast, Kohli spearheaded Delhi's quest for 299 against Andhra captained by Nitish Kumar Reddy. Kohli scored 131 off 101 balls as Delhi won by four wickets.
Kohli also reached the milestone of 16,000 List A runs during his knock on Wednesday. After the legendary Sachin Tendulkar, Kohli is only the second Indian player to achieve the feat. The 37-year-old is now the ninth player in history to scale this milestone, joining the ranks of legendary players such as Sir Vivian Richards, Ricky Ponting, Tendulkar, and Kumar Sangakkara.
While captaining Delhi in the 2010–11 season, Kohli made his last appearance in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. He had not competed in the tournament for almost ten years prior to this return. He, however, did take part in the NKP Salve Challenger Trophy in 2013–14. His accomplishment was a suitable beginning to Delhi's campaign, and his return to the competition was much awaited.
Ishan Kishan, a wicketkeeper-batter who scored a century off 33 balls for Jharkhand against Karnataka in Ahmedabad, made a compelling case for an ODI recall. It was also the second fastest by an Indian in List A, just one delivery behind Bihar captain Sakibul Gani's record 32-ball ton that he slammed earlier in the day.
