Team India won their ninth Asia Cup title, demonstrating their dominance over Pakistan for the third time in two weeks, but they were ultimately denied the trophy to celebrate. This was after the Indian team refused to take the trophy from ACC chief Mohsin Naqvi, who is also the head of the PCB and a minister in Pakistan.

On Sunday night, Naqvi left the dais and took the trophy with him as the presentation ceremony came to an end. Towards the conclusion of the ceremony, broadcaster Simon Doull affirmed that: "I have been informed by the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) that the Indian cricket team will not be collecting their awards tonight. So that does conclude the post-match presentation."

Despite not being handed the trophy, the Men In Blue celebrated the moment without holding back. In fact in doing so Suryakumar Yadav also mocked Naqvi and at the same time paid a tribute to his predecessor Rohit Sharma.

A video doing rounds on social media showed Suryakumar and his teammates hoisting an "imaginary" trophy. With no trophy in hand, the captain also imitated Rohit's famous celebration from the 2024 T20 World Cup. He cautiously approached his teammates, following which they erupted in loud roar.

Meanwhile, after missing the final due to a niggle, Hardik Pandya humorously revived his T20 World Cup 2024 celebration by including a photo-shopped trophy in his post. Vice-captain Shubman Gill, meanwhile, joined in the fun by sharing a photo of himself holding a virtual trophy with his close buddy and opening partner Abhishek Sharma.

In his analysis of the entire situation, India captain Suryakumar told reporters: "I think this is one thing which I have never seen since I started playing cricket, or following the sport. A champion team is denied a trophy, that too a hard-earned one. I feel we deserved it. I can't say anything more; I've summed it up really well. If you tell me about trophies, my trophies are sitting in the dressing room, all the 14 guys with me, the support staff, those are the real trophies throughout this journey in the Asia Cup."
