Pakistan clinched a record-breaking sixth Hong Kong Sixes championship on Sunday. In the 2025 edition, Pakistan, under the leadership of Abbas Afridi, triumphed over South Africa in the quarterfinals, Australia in the semifinals, and Kuwait in the final.
Pakistan player Muhammad Shahzad celebrated the triumph by imitating India all-rounder Hardik Pandya's trophy celebration, which the latter did after winning the T20 World Cup 2024.
Pakistan defeated debutants Kuwait by 43 runs in the final after an all-round effort. Pakistan, batting first, scored a dominant 135/3, driven by captain Abbas Afridi's potent 52 (11) and Abdul Samad's explosive 42 (13). Meet Bhavsar of Kuwait took three wickets.
Adnan Idrees hit five sixes in the first over to give his team a ray of hope, and Kuwait started their chase in dramatic manner with a quick 30 (8). But Kuwait were ultimately bowled out for 92/6 by Pakistan's disciplined bowling attack.
Pakistan's only loss in the entire Hong Kong Sixes 2025 campaign was against Dinesh Karthik-led India in their Pool C match. India overcame Pakistan by two runs in the rain-affected match via the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method.
But India lost their next four games, thus ending the tournament on a bitter note.
