Team India didn't have the best outing against New Zealand on Day 2 of the ongoing Test at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. After a complete washout on Day 1, fans witnessed good action on the following day but most of it was not in favour of the hosts. It started with Rohit Sharma winning the toss and opting to bat, a decision which didn't take long enough to backfire in overcast conditions. India registered their third lowest total in Tests after being bundled out for 46, with as many as five batters getting out for 0.
The plight didn't stop there as New Zealand piled 180/3 on the board and finished the day with a healthy lead of 134 runs. During the course of New Zealand innings, India missed a lot of chances like squandering a run-out opportunity, dropping catches at slips, also ending up losing two reviews. However, what left netizens furious was KL Rahul's brain fade moment, when fielding at slips he dodged a ball instead of going for the catch.
The incident took place in the 13th over bowled by Mohammed Siraj, who managed to get an outside edge of New Zealand skipper Tom Latham but Rahul failed to capitalise on the opportunity. Instead the ball went past him and raced towards the boundary ropes, leaving skipper Rohit Sharma angry. Instead Rahul suggested he didn't spot the ball that well. The wasted opportunity saw Rohit flung his arms in disbelief and Siraj looked equally frustrated as he walked back to his mark.
However, social media didn't spare Rahul for his lack of awareness. Here are a few reactions:

Not sure what's going on with KL Rahul. Some of his fielding efforts against Bangladesh were questionable but this is something else.#INDvNZ pic.twitter.com/fJek7BxOoK

KL Rahul :-- 34 test average after 90 innings- 20 test average in Australia- Cant take a single catch - Lets laugh on this 32 years old liability of a cricketer who hasnt won a single ICC trophy and IPL till now #KLRahul #INDvsNZ #TeamIndia pic.twitter.com/7NQ86nPayb https://t.co/ZafnlUeb2a Prateek (@prateek_295) October 17, 2024
Rahul also failed to create an impact with the bat and was among the five batters to be dismissed for 0. Rahul was caught-behind as he tried poking a delivery going down the leg stump line by William ORourke. The pacer scalped four wickets, while Matt Henry completed his five-wicket haul in an innings, where Rishabh Pant's 20 emerged as the highest among the Indian batters. Tim Southee triggered the Indian collapse by cleaning up Rohit for 2.
