Shreyas Iyer, captain of Punjab Kings, was fined Rs 12 lakh for his team's slow over rate during their Indian Premier League match against the Chennai Super Kings at Chepauk.
An IPL media advisory stated on Thursday, "As this was his team's first offence of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which pertains to minimum over-rate offences, Shreyas Iyer was fined Rs 12 Lakh."

In their IPL match on Wednesday, Punjab Kings defeated Chennai Super Kings by four wickets thanks to an outstanding 72 from captain Shreyas and a hat-trick from Yuzvendra Chahal.
PBKS exceeded the 191-run mark in 19.4 overs, spearheaded by opener Prabhsimran Singh (54, 36b, 5x4, 3x6) and Shreyas (72, 41b, 5x4 4x6).

Chahal took four wickets (4/32), including a hat-trick, although Sam Curran's 88 earlier enabled hosts CSK post 190 all out.
Dewald Brevis (32, 26b, 2x4, 1x6) provided Curran (88, 47b, 9x4, 4x6) with strong support.
The most effective bowler for PBKS was leg-spinner Chahal, however pacer Marco Jansen also chipped in with 2 wickets. The rules pertaining to slow over-rates have been substantially altered for the 2025 IPL season.
“Effective this season, a new Code of Conduct will be implemented from the TATA IPL 2025 season, introducing a demerit points system and suspension points that will remain valid for 36 months,” the BCCI said in an official release.

If his team committed slow over-rate offenses in three consecutive games during the 2024 season, the captain would be subject to a mandatory one-match suspension.
The revised regulations state that skippers who engage in sluggish over-rates would be penalized financially and will accrue demerit points equal to 25% of their match fee. Repeated infractions may result in harsher penalties, and these points are valid for 36 months.
