Virat Kohli Awarded Orange Cap

Royal Challengers Bangalore's batting maestro, Virat Kohli, secured the Orange Cap for the second time in his career after amassing 741 runs in IPL 2024. Kohli was in sublime form throughout the tournament, playing a pivotal role in RCB's turnaround in the second half of the season to qualify for the playoffs. He displayed remarkable consistency and an aggressive approach, finishing with a strike rate of 154.69. Despite his stellar performance, RCB were knocked out by Rajasthan Royals in the eliminator.

Meanwhile, Kolkata Knight Riders clinched their third IPL title, defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad by eight wickets in a one-sided final. Kohli’s season was noteworthy as he silenced critics by improving his strike rate against spinners, incorporating the slog sweep into his arsenal. He scored a century and five half-centuries, becoming the third player to win the Orange Cap multiple times.

Kohli faced little competition for the Orange Cap, with no other batsman surpassing the 600-run mark. Ruturaj Gaikwad finished second with 583 runs, 158 runs behind Kohli. Riyan Parag, who had a strong season, had a chance to challenge Kohli but managed only 6 runs in Qualifier 2, ending his season with 573 runs. Travis Head, playing in the final, finished with 567 runs after a duck against KKR.

In the 2016 IPL season, Virat Kohli etched his name in history by clinching the Orange Cap for the first time. His phenomenal knock of 973 runs that year remains the highest ever recorded in the IPL.

Kohli’s outstanding season highlighted his adaptability and skill, but it wasn’t enough to secure the title for RCB, who will aim to build on this performance next year.
