Social media was ablaze on Friday following awkward moments between Hardik Pandya and Shubman Gill during the Mumbai Indians' IPL 2025 Eliminator matchup with Gujarat Titans. An awkward moment resulted when Hardik offered Gill a handshake during the toss but the Titans skipper overlooked it. Pandya was then observed celebrating extra vehemently and even turning his face slightly as he passed Gill following his dismissal for 1(2).
"Is it the start of a mini rivalry? Before the toss, the two could be seen together clicking photos. Then at the toss, Hardik was ready for a hand shake but then Shubman Gill looked at the other side. Then after Gill's dismissal, Pandya passed him," the commentator said on air.

However, Gill didn't waste any time to address the matter and took to Instagram to shut all speculations. "Nothing but love (heart emoticon) Don't believe everything you see on the internet @hardikpandya93" - India's new red-ball skipper wrote on his Instagram story and shared photo of him and Pandya celebrating in the Indian jersey.
Later in the day, Pandya replied to Gill’s post with the caption: “Always shubhu baby” - suggesting all is well between India stars.
Speaking about the match, Mumbai defeated Gujarat by 20 runs thanks in large part to Rohit Sharma's 81 and the expertise of Jasprit Bumrah (1–27). Gujarat scored 208/6 in 20 overs while chasing 229 at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in New Chandigarh.
With a convincing victory that eliminated title favorites Gujarat, Mumbai took another step toward a possible sixth championship. They will now lock horns with Punjab Kings in Qualifier 2 at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday and the winner of this match will play Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the final at the same venue on Tuesday.
