India vs West Indies 1st Test: India is returning to the rigors of Test cricket following its thrilling victory in the Asia Cup T20 in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Prior to that, India, under Shubman Gill, had begun a new chapter in their history with a Test series in England that is considered to be one of the best of this century.

With his outstanding leadership on the field and series-high 754 runs, Gill in particular proved he was the legitimate heir to the captaincy position as India managed to draw the series 2-2.

India's two-match Test series against the West Indies is their first home contest since they were humiliated 0-3 by New Zealand last year. In many respects, that series signaled the end of an era.

First of all, after winning every series since 2013, India's legendary home domination came to a halt. Additionally, it turned out to be the final home Test for the senior trio of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Ravichandran Ashwin.

Two days prior to the first Test, the Ahmedabad pitch appears to have a good layer of grass, according to reports. Given the recent rainy weather in Ahmedabad, this could be partially caused by the weather, but it could also be a reaction to India's defeat by New Zealand the previous year. India's preparation of rank turners for the Kiwis backfired, as players like Glenn Phillips and Mitchell Santner ran through the home team's batting order.
