India vs Australia Highlights, Women's World Cup semifinal: Jemimah Rodrigues dug deep and produced an incredible effort to power India to a historic five-wicket victory against Australia in the ICC Women's World Cup semifinal at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. She slammed an unbeaten 127 off 134, driving India to the highest successful run chase in the history of the competition.
Australia, batting first, had piled 338 in 49.5 overs and India wrapped the chase with nine balls to spare. The hosts will now meet South Africa in the final.
Meanwhile, the platform for the win was laid by her and skipper Harmanpreet Kaur, who combined to add 167(156) for the third wicket. The partnership was eventually broken by Annabel Sutherland, who got rid of Harmanpreet for 89(88).
This was Jemimah's third ODI ton. She was handed a lifeline on 82 by Australia captain Alyssa Healy, who dropped the easiest of chance off Alana King's bowling, and later on 106, when Tahila McGrath put down a routine catch off Annabel Sutherland's bowling.
Richa Ghosh and Deepti Sharma also made vital contribution during their stay in the middle. Ghosh smoked 26 off 16, while Deepti was run-out for 24(17).
India didn't get off to the best of start as Shafali Verma, playing her first match in the tournament, struck two boundaries but got trapped LBW for 10(5). This not only cost India a wicket but also a review. Smriti Mandhana and Rodrigues then added 46 runs for the second wicket before an excellent DRS call by Healy resulted in the former's dismissal. She was caught-behind for run-a-ball 24 against Kim Garth.
Earlier, Phoebe Litchfield ran the show for Australia and Ashleigh Gardner inflicted the final punch as the visitors, who won the toss and opted to bat, piled a massive 338/10. Litchfield slammed her first century in World Cup, taking just 77 balls to reach the milestone. She and Ellyse Perry stitched a massive 155-run partnership for the second wicket before Amanjot Kaur finally got team the breakthrough they were desperate for.
Gardner then smashed a quickfire 63(45), featuring four boundaries and the same number of maximums. Her knock came right when India swung the momentum into their favour with jolts at regular intervals. Perry, on the other hand, made a handy contribution of 77(88) before losing her wicket against Radha Yadav.
In a not so convincing show by Indian bowlers, Shree Charani emerged as the best among the lot. She gave away 49 runs in her full quota of overs and returned with two scalps. Deepti Sharma also picked a couple of wickets, both of which came in the final over, but conceded 73 runs in 9.5 overs, while Radha Yadav managed one wicket and leaked 66 runs in eight overs.
