Earlier, Aiden Markram and Ryan Rickelton gave South Africa the start they hoped for. The pair added 82 runs for the opening wicket after the visitors won the toss and opted to bat. Markram was handed an early reprieve on 4 by KL Rahul at slip. Jasprit Bumrah broke the stand right at the stroke of Tea, castling Markram for 38.
Stubbs joined the proceedings after the interval as Kuldeep handed India their second breakthrough in the form of Rickelton, who was caught-behind for 35. Stubbs along with Bavuma then ensured there were no further inroads as South Africa headed to Lunch at 156/2.
Meanwhile, South Africa made one change in the XI as Senuran Muthusamy replaced Corbin Bosch. The hosts, on the other hand, brought in Sai Sudharsan and Nitish Kumar Reddy as skipper Shubman Gill missed out due to neck injury and Axar Patel was benched. Rishabh Pant is leading the team in the absence of Gill.
