Gautam Gambhir and the Indian team management cut short their victory celebration in Hobart as BCCI shared a photo of the group glued to the screen watching the women in action at the World Cup final at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on Sunday. In a post shared by BCCI, head coach Gautam Gambhir can be seated in the centre with pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah and Rinku Singh standing nearby. Fielding coach T Dilip and other members of the support staff were also framed glued to the screen.

Meanwhile, the final saw a delay of two hours due to rain in Navi Mumbai, and thankfully no overs were lost. South Africa won the toss and invited India to bat following which Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma laid a solid platform for India to explode in the latter overs. The pair added 104 for the first wicket before Mandhana was caught-behind for 45(58), featuring eight boundaries, off Chloe Tryon's bowling.

Shafali helped India build further and was also handed a lifeline by Anneke Bosch on 56, who missed a routine opportunity at deep square leg region. She was eventually dismissed for 87(78) after handing a simple catch to Sune Luus at mid-off off Ayabonga Khaka's bowling. Khaka then injected a second blow as she packed Jemimah Rodrigues for 24(37), who was caught by Laura Wolvaardt at short cover. Deepti Sharma and Harmanpreet Kaur are batting in the middle.

Earlier, India head coach Gautam Gambhir, captain Shubman Gill and the rest of the team sent their wishes to Harmanpreet and Co. in a video shared by BCCI.

India will be keen on recreating scenes from the 2011 Men's World Cup when the MS Dhoni-led side trounced Sri Lanka to lift the coveted title after 28 years. The Indian women's team has yet to secure the title, having failed to win it on two occasions: in 2005 and 2017.
