Australian cricket legend Glenn McGrath gave his take on Virat Kohli's and Rohit Sharma's poor performance at Perth. He implied that the two seasoned batters were outmatched by the quick and lively conditions. Rohit was out for just 8 as Josh Hazlewood got him in the very first over, while Kohli lasted only 8 balls against Mitchell Starc in the opening encounter of the series, which saw these two Indian stars back in action after an eight-month break in the ODI cricket.
McGrath, through his Fast Bowling Cartel YouTube channel, also noticed that the duo's timing with the game was off due to the long break from international cricket. He elaborated that Perth is known for pace and bounce which are rare in India, and it was evident that the pair lacked match exposure despite having practiced well before the match.

"There was a lot of talk going into the match about the two greats, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. They've not had a lot of cricket under their belt. And I think they got found out a little bit on a pitch that has got a little bit more pace and a lot more bounce than what they're used to back in India," said McGrath on the Fast Bowling Cartel YouTube channel.
India’s disappointing outing in Perth has led to speculation once again regarding their capability to perform consistently in the overseas conditions and also the fate of senior players before the 2027 ODI World Cup.
With Kohli and Rohit both being in their late-thirties, the selectors are monitoring their performance closely while at the same time preparing the younger players for the future. The Indian players are currently in Adelaide. Kohli and Rohit, as per the reports, have been putting in a lot of hours practicing in the nets to get their lost touch and confidence back.
