As a child in Palakollu, Andhra Pradesh, Jahnavi Dangeti often believed the Moon quietly followed her. Years later, that childhood dream is steering her towards the stars in the most real way possible.
First Indian Chosen For Titans Space Mission
Jahnavi, aged 23, is set to become the first Indian selected for the prestigious Titans Space flight. Her journey to space will happen in 2029 through a five-hour orbital mission. The ambitious mission will circle Earth twice and offer three hours of weightlessness in zero gravity.
She is an Electronics and Communication Engineering graduate from Lovely Professional University, Punjab. Her parents, Srinivas and Padmasri, are currently working in Kuwait.
The young space enthusiast had earlier completed NASA’s International Air and Space Programme. Now, as an astronaut candidate for the US-based Titans Space, she will fly aboard the Orbital Port Space Station, expected to launch in four years.
Training Under NASA’s Veteran Astronaut Begins Soon
Jahnavi’s astronaut training starts in 2026 under retired NASA astronaut Colonel William McArthur Jr. He will lead the Titans mission as Chief Astronaut.
Her training will include mastering spacecraft systems, zero-gravity simulations, survival exercises, medical check-ups, and mental fitness assessments. Jahnavi called it a “huge honour” to be guided by someone with decades of space experience.
“The programme prepares us mentally, physically, and technically for space,” Jahnavi shared, reflecting on her upcoming challenge.
NASA And ISRO Recognised Her Achievements
Jahnavi has already earned global recognition for her achievements. She bagged the People’s Choice Award at NASA’s Space Apps Challenge. She was also honoured with the Young Achiever Award during ISRO’s World Space Week celebrations.
Reflecting on her journey, Jahnavi wrote on Instagram, “As a child, I thought the Moon followed me. I never knew it was leading me here. Now, that wonder has become my reality.”
When 2029 arrives, she will no longer be the girl watching the sky — but a young woman viewing Earth from space, inspiring countless others to dream beyond the stars.
