Space42, a UAE-based SpaceTech firm, has achieved a milestone. The company launched its Thuraya 4 telecommunications satellite on 4 January 2025. A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket carried the satellite from Cape Canaveral, Florida. This launch marks a significant step for Space42’s global ambitions.
After deployment, Thuraya 4 began its Electrical Orbit Raising (EOR) process. This gradual manoeuvre will place it in geostationary orbit. The satellite will orbit 36,000 kilometres above Earth at 44 degrees East. Space42 expects this transition to take several months.

Thuraya 4's Features and Capabilities
The satellite is equipped with a 12-metre L-Band antenna. Its advanced payload enables dynamic power allocation across beams. Thuraya 4 can route up to 3,200 communication channels. These features will enhance connectivity and data transmission speeds.
Once operational, Thuraya 4 will serve Africa, Europe, and Asia. It will also cover the Middle East, improving regional communication. Space42 aims to support sectors like defence, government, and enterprise.
Future Innovations and Strategic Growth
Thuraya 4 is Space42's sixth geostationary satellite in orbit. It paves the way for over 15 new products by the company. These include solutions for direct-to-device and IoT applications.
Space42's Managing Director called the launch a key step forward. “This satellite strengthens our ability to innovate for partners,” he said. The CEO added, “Today’s success supports our goal of global leadership.”
With Thuraya 4, Space42 continues expanding its reach and vision.
