Some animals can stay awake for most of their lives. These creatures have unique sleep patterns or barely need rest, here’s a look at eight such animals.

Dolphins sleep with only one half of their brain at a time. This allows them to come up for air and stay alert to avoid predators while resting.

Giraffes usually sleep for just a few minutes at a time. They often stand while resting, keeping them alert to nearby predators in their environment.

Ants rest in short cycles throughout the day, rarely taking long sleep breaks. This sleep pattern helps them stay active to maintain the colony’s order.

Alpine swifts can fly non-stop for months during migration. They rest mid-flight by entering a half-sleep state, allowing them to stay in the air.

Wild elephants sleep very little, often just two hours a day. Their sleep is so brief that they can stay on the move, seeking food and avoiding threats.

Walruses can go without sleep for days while they’re at sea. They manage to rest on land but can stay active and alert when in the water.

Many shark species need constant motion to breathe, which keeps them from deep sleep. Instead, they rest lightly while swimming, staying aware of their surroundings.

Bullfrogs are often studied for their unique behaviour, as they hardly need sleep. These amphibians can stay active for long periods, especially in the wild.
