If you blink, you’ll still miss it, but Earth’s rotation on August 5 will be slightly quicker than normal. According to experts, the planet will complete its spin about 1.25 milliseconds faster than the standard 24-hour solar day.

This means Tuesday will be one of the shortest days of 2025 and among the shortest since timekeeping records began in 1973.

Why is Earth spinning faster again?

Timeanddate.com reports that Earth is rotating quicker than usual. The average solar day, measured at 86,400 seconds, is expected to fall just short of that mark.
