A rare northern lights (Aurora Borealis) show may be visible across 18 US states this weekend, including places like New York, Michigan, and Wyoming.
The northern lights happen when energy from the sun hits Earth's atmosphere, creating colorful glows in the sky. Normally, they're only seen near the Arctic, but strong solar activity can push them farther south.
A solar storm hit Earth on June 12-13, and its effects are still lingering. Because of this, NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) predicts a moderate geomagnetic storm (G2) on June 14, making the aurora visible in more places.
