10 Best Wildlife Parks in India to Spot the Elusive Sloth Bear

Satpura Tiger Reserve, Madhya Pradesh

The undisturbed forests and rocky landscapes make this reserve one of the most reliable destinations for sloth bear sightings. Best time to visit at dawn or dusk in summer.

Daroji Sloth Bear Sanctuary, Karnataka

This is Asia’s first sanctuary which was created solely for sloth bear protection. This is situated near Hampi. This offers focused bear-watching experiences.

Bandhavgarh National Park, Madhya Pradesh

Known for its rugged terrain and prey base, Bandhavgarh allows excellent opportunities to spot sloth bears foraging.

Nagarhole (Rajiv Gandhi) National Park, Karnataka

Nagarhole is a dense moist forest in Karnataka. Here the Kabini backwaters is prime sloth bear habitat. You can see these bears in early morning and late afternoon.

Tadoba–Andhari Tiger Reserve, Maharashtra

Tadoba is a deciduous forest with abundant termite mounds. This provides a perfect condition for sloth bears. Moharli and Kolsa zones are particularly rewarding to see bears.

Gudekote Sloth Bear Sanctuary, Karnataka

This is Karnataka’s second dedicated bear sanctuary, established to safeguard habitats and reduce human–bear conflict. You can witness sloth bears in dry season.

Panna National Park, Madhya Pradesh

Panna provides a quieter environment for sloth bears. With fewer tourists, its Hinauta range is particularly good for sightings.

Ranthambore National Park, Rajasthan

Rocky hills, scrub forests, and dry valleys make Ranthambore a stronghold for sloth bears. Zones 6 to 8 are especially notable. Best time to visit them is from March to June.

Jessore Sloth Bear Sanctuary, Gujarat

Dedicated exclusively to conserving sloth bears, this sanctuary offers quiet trails and dry forest landscapes. Best time to visit is Summer and post-monsoon.
